The Sony marketing machine is warming up. The PhotoPlus show is over and as we have seen lately from Sony their product announcements are now made off the big shows. I have been told Sony product announcement(s) are going to be made in November. So maybe we will finally get a glimpse into the new FE lens roadmap. Back in September Sony stated eight new FE lenses would be announced between now and Spring 2016. Time to see those!
The reliable Korean newspaper Asiae reports that Samsung will completely shut down the entire digital camera business. Developers personnel were moved to the smart phone or medical division. Samsung also stopped all marketing campaigns and the samsungcamera.com site (no updates since months).
At least for 2016 there will be no camera development of any kind. Maybe in 2017 or later Samsung could return with a new business plan. But for now I am now pretty certain Samsung is done with the NX system.
That is a very bad day. Samsung was the with Canon and Panasonic one of the few companies that like Sony can make everything in-house (sensor processor and so on). And their NX500 sensor even is the best at the APS-C DxOmark sensor ranking.
UPDATE: Also the Spanish magazine Quesabesde got the same “rumor”. Spanish and Portuguese stores report that Samsung camera contacts completely disappeared. And at least in Portugal Samsung itself confirmed they will not sell any NX camera anymore.

Our reader Mistral (Thanks) spotted the very first image of the new Leica SL camera! The camera will be announced today at 19:30 Berlin time. Follow the live blogging here on MR!
The leak came through the Italian site Fotografia.it (they now removed the content). That is the translation from the italian press text:
“Leica SL: the new concept Full Frame
With the SL series Leica is a new choice; using the latest technologies in dress mirrorless offers a technologically advanced machine and the dimensions similar to those of the M rangefinder.
The next issue of Tutti Fotografi will publish the exclusive test of the prototype.
The basic technical data are as follows.
The 24-megapixel sensor, with no anti-aliasing filter, is a full-frame CMOS. The electronic viewfinder LCD has a resolution of 4 million points and is at the top of the EVF for definition and sharpness, as well as for the 60 fps refresh.
The rear screen is not adjustable, but is Touch; it is surrounded by buttons anonymous-style S for tidy interface. Body and lenses are tropicalized.
The SL will handle auto focus with contrast detection on a grid of 49 points in the viewfinder optimally arranged to cover not only the core area, but also off-center subjects.
Together with Leica camera body are presented three lenses, stabilized and equipped with bayonet T, hence the compatibility with the objectives for the smaller size, and its crop frame.
Also adapters can be mounted almost all Leica optical system.Zoom 24-90mm f/2.8-4
Zoom 90-280mm f/2.8-4
Fixed focus 50mm f/1.4.The price of the Leica SL is € 6,900.”
The price with 24-90mm as kit lens will be around 10.000 Euro. And yes, it has T-mount!
Leica definitely did choose a modern and somehow Sony A7 alike design.

Leica chief Andreas H Kaufmann posted that image shot on the Leica SL. Of course he doesn’t say it as clear as I am doing now. He writes on Facebook:
Salzburg, Getreidegasse, yesterday, shot with….? Who knows?
Andreas carefully removed all EXIF data but it seems like the image has been taken with the 24-90mm SL lens at widest aperture.
What we know so far of the camera:
– Will be announced on October 20
– Sensor 24MP CMOS
– Full autofocus support
– 4K Video
Three new SL lenses will be alunched along the new SL camera:
– Leica Vario-Elmarit-SL 1: 2.8-4 / 24-90 mm ASPH.
– Leica Apo-Vario-Elmarit-SL 1: 2.8-4 / 90-280 mm
– Leica Summilux-SL 1: 1.4 / 50 mm ASPH.

Fujirumors spotted that new image of the XF100-400 mockup lens. The small new info is that the lens has a f/4.5 to f/5.6 aperture range.
And one more info for Fuji guys: The XF 35mm f/2.0 and the 1.4x TC lens are going to be announced on October 21 at 1am New York time!
Tomorrow (Friday) Sigma will launch a new amazing 20mm f/1.4 ART lens. The lens will be available in Canon, Nikon Sigma mount but I guess Sony FE camera owners will be happy to know they can use that lens with full autofocus control if they buy the Canon version and use a Metabones adapter.
I am really excited about this lens. If I am not mistaken this is the fastest wide angle Full Frame lens on market right now!
