Dpreview had a chat with Mister Kenji Tanaka from Sony. And I am actually surprised hear them talking openly about their future plans. But first read this statement from Mister Tanaka.

“I already predicted that Canon and Nikon would join the market, and even Panasonic. It wasn’t a surprise to me.“

Tanaka also said they are focused on expanding the market and they are not focused on the competition.

Tanaka also clearly gave us info about the Sony next products:

1) Sony APS-C professional camera is coming
2) Sony A7sIII will have 4k60p 4:2:2 10bit
3) There will be new APS-C E-mount lenses too
4) They do not plan to go medium format yet
5) Future Artificial Intelligence features will be implemented on current cameras

The APS-C camera is expected to be released as next while Sony said it will still take some time for the A7sIII.

Well known and very reliable Pentax source “Asahi Man” just shared this on the Dpreview forum:

A nice fullframe line up is in sight, no sign for going out of business.
Next year is the big anniversary,don’t forget this point.

My speculation is that also Pentax will launch a new Full Frame Mirrorless next year. I hope they will noin one of the existing FF mirrorless systems. I really cannot see them competiting all alone against the big giants.

The endless and justified complains against the weak Sony APS-C E-mount support finally had some effect. Mr. Tanaka from Sony confirmed in an interview at Pronews.jp that they will now focus on APS-C again.

In his words Sony had to complete the FF camera line first before to move on to APS-C again. As rumored weeks ago Sony is expected to launch a new High End APS-C model soon. It will have:

• EVF in the center
• larger body
• 20fps
• new around 30MP sensor?

Let’s hope some nice APS-C glass is going to be announced too…

Nokishita leaked the first images of the soon to be announced new Zeiss Otus 100mm f/1.4 lens. There is yet no info about pricing and official release date. As usual expect this lens to be available in native Canon EF and Nikon F mounts. But you can use it on any mirrorless system camera with the proper adapter.

Nokishita updated the list of cameras that have been registered in Asian public agencies. Those models will be officially announced within the next couple of months:

There are some rumors about Canon announcing a new professional level EOS-PRO camera in January-February. From what I heard this camera will take quite a bit longer before it goes on market and I don’t see it ready by early 2019.

And Digital Camera World talked to Canon about the possibility of adding on sensor stabilization on future cameras:

We [i.e. Canon, editor’s note] feel that in-lens IS is the optimum system for image stabilisation […]

With an in-body IS system you are creating something that needs to work over lots of different types of lenses and different lens groups, so you don’t get a dedicated system for that particular lens.

All lenses move in different ways, and you get different types of shake depending on what kind of lens you’re using, so dedicating the IS system to the particular lens is, for us, the optimum way of doing it – but that’s not to say that we aren’t looking at in-body IS.
