Nikon cuts forecast. And TheCameraStoreTV calls for a FM mirrorless.

Nikon latest financial report (see here) describes a negative scenario for Nikon. Sales are dropping down and forecast is even worse than expected.

The team form TheCameraStoreTV discussed about the Nikon and Canon very conservative approach regarding the mirrorless market. They suggest Nikon to launch a Full Frame mirrorless system based on the amazing FM design. I couldn’t agree more on that!

Nikon (and Canon) really have to stop thinking in such a conservative way. They have to “risk” if they do not want to be overcome by Sony, Fuji and other companies.

The Sigma DP2 Quattro just got a new firmware update you can download here: http://www.sigma-global.com/en/download/cameras/firmware/. It brings the following fixes:

1) It has corrected the phenomenon that details of subjects that have both similar color tones and contrast difference will be lost when images are recorded in JPEG format.

2) It has reduced the longitudinal noise that appears occasionally when changing each adjustment value in the image correction process substantially during the development of RAW files in SIGMA Photo Pro Ver.6. – See more at: http://sigma-rumors.com/#sthash.cvNBEOGu.dpuf

CIPA data: Mirrorless cameras shipment growing. DSLR falling. Even in US and EU!

Image on top on courtesy of Personal View (Click here).

The Japanese agency Cipa (Click here) published the camera worldwide shipments data for the month of June. And Personal View (Click here) ordered the data in many nice graphs. There are a couple of interesting trends:

1) Mirrorless camera shipment from Japanese companies are growing (+9% over the previous month)
2) DSLR shipments are falling (-11% compared with to May).
3) Mirrorless shipments increased in the “not-so-mirrorless-friendly”  US (+18%) and European market (+10%).

In short: In these time of crisis the DSLR market is falling dramatically while the Mirrorless market is slowly growing.
