Super fast lens coming for the GFX system: Fujinon GF 80mm f/1.4….in Full Frame that’s f/1.1!

The GFX currently lacks real fast primes. But if the rumor Fujirumors shared is correct Fuji will announce a new 80mm f/1.4 lens in 2018. For the record in FF equivalent terms this is a 63mm f/1.1 Nerd at this point will tell me I didn’t calculate the aspect ratio different. But that will make little difference and I didn’t know how to do it :)

Because a reader expressed concern on how to calculate an MF to FF equivalence feel free to use that online tool for yourself to check my math. Here is a screenshot of the result:

I repeat this does yet not take into account the frame ratio difference.

That said this will give you a real Bokeh-Orgasm and create some real nice medium format look….or maybe we just will imagine it will have that :)

Is RED going to announce a new modular mirrorless system on July 6?

Jim Jannard is teasing the launch of a new kind of product:

“July 6th. 9am PST. Right here. You need to be online. You need to tell everyone you know to be online. Have your credit card ready. This is a new product category. It does not impact your RED camera.”

We don’t know what RED will announced on that day bu Newsshooter speculates that this might be modular camera system which was patented by RED some time ago.

Lensbaby Velvet 85mm f/1.6 announced

The new Lensbaby Velvet 85mm f/1.6 lens is now available for preorder at Adorama and BHphoto.

Dan Mandell (Click here) wrote a first impression review:

I could justify buying it simply because of its increased situational versatility. While you have the option to go full artsy with this lens, you can dial it down or season to taste if you prefer. It would have been interesting to really see how this lens works in even more diverse scenarios. Off the top of my head, I can think of a few things. There are probably ways to exploit what the lens does to create more targeted areas of effect. Using spotlights or fresnels, you could literally paint in or pinpoint areas of light that would receive the effect. Even light painting or long exposure shots have interesting possibilities here.
I’m happy to see Lensbaby making some moves in this direction. I look forward to more and more interesting entries into the market from them.
