Wild rumors about Samsung producing large quantity of Full Frame sensor

The NX1 still sells for $2,460 on Amazon

We know Samsung is capable of doing great APS-C sensor (just look at the NX1 camera). And many still wish Samsung will come back doing APS-C or FF sensors for other manufacturers. There is yet no evidence supporting that’s really going to happen. But there is a big discussion within the Korean Forum Seeko.kr that attracted my curiosity. According to a user report Samsung is doing this:

  1. Samsung Electronics has just built a full-frame sensor in meaningful quantity. Those are not just an engineering samples.
  2. They will start mass production next year and plan to deliver them to Japan. But they did not mention a particular company. They plans to supply it to multiple customers.

O f course this is just forum talk for now and has near zero credibility. But I keep fingers crossed this will be true. it would be about time to get an alternative to Sony’s domination!

These are all the press events happening at Photokina on September 25 (Sony, Leica, Panasonic, Fuji, Canon, Nikon, Olympus)

As reported today by SonyAlphaRumors this is the new updated list of Photokina press conferences planed by the big companies on September 25:

Some of these companies like Canon and Nikon could announce no product at all and “only” introduce their new systems. Panasonic has the potential to be make the biggest announcement with a new FF system camera.

Multiple Sony and Zeiss announcements ahead of Photokina: A6500 successor finally to be announced?

The Zeiss FF camera teaser

After all the Canon, Nikon and Fuji announcements it’s time for Sony (and Zeiss) to show their cards. let’s start from the smaller one:

Zeiss will announce the 40mm Batis and a new fixed lens Full Frame camera. Zeiss has scheduled a press conference for September 27.

Sony has multiple announcement ahead:
On September 14 they will announce a camcorder
On September 18 they will announce some E-mount stuff (probably a new High End APS-C E-mount camera)
On September 25 they will have an official press conference at Photokina with maybe some more new gear (new lenses?).

While it’s a good bet to think the new High End E-mount camera will be announced soon it’s possible Sony will not launch the new A7sIII any time soon. After all the A7sII still has no direct competition. I wonder if Sony could announce something else that could take away some interest from the new Canon and Nikon offerings…

Fuji announces the new X-T3

Fuji announced the new X-T3 and as usual an extended coverage of all news can be read at FujiRumors.com. Camera preorders will open tomorrow at BHphoto and Adorama. This is a stunning fast camera that puts FF cameras from Nikon, Sony and Canon in the shadow. So unless you absolutely need a FF sensor this is a real winner camera (from the specs point of view).

Here is DPReviews take on the new camera:
