Is Canon really going to launch two new EOS-M bodies in 2020?

I still wonder why in a declining market Canon insists on the EOS-M system. They should simply make APS-C EOS-R bodies to keep costs down. But hey, the marketing and manager world often does work with a logic I cannot comprehend :)

CanonWatch reports:

It’s suggested that Canon might release two new EOS M bodies in 2020. One of these could likely be the Canon EOS M60 (the replacement for the EOS M50, might also be named EOS M50 Mark II). The other one could be the Canon EOS M5 Mark II. We reported back in February that Canon might announce the M5 II in October 2020 and the EOS M60 at the beginning of 2021.

The new Canon EOS M rumor mentions also the possibility that Canon might release two prime lenses for the EOS M system. One of these could be the EF-M 52mm f/2 STM we reported in February 2020. Our rumor mentioned a EF-M 18-45mm f/2-4 IS STM, which is not mentioned in the new rumor.

Tactical game: Sony postpones product launch to avoid Canon product launch overlap

3 weeks ago Sony announced it would have a Cine focused product launch event on April 20. A week after Canon said they would also have such an even on April 20. That was quite an odd move from Canon. But today Sony quietly decided to postpone the event to April 30.

Anyway, most of us couldn’t care less. On both event we will likely get new Cine lenses and Camcorder stuff only. Do not expect to get an A7sIII or a new EOS-R camera :(

DJI is ready to announce the new Mavic Air 2 drone

DJI officially registered the new Mavic Air 2 drone on the FCC’s database. DronDJ writes:

The Mavic Air 2 will slot in between the Mavic Mini and the well known Mavic 2 series, making it a great combination of small size and power, hopefully including some of the features present on the Mavic 2 series such as 360-degree obstacle avoidance, OcuSync 2.0, and the downward-facing LED light.

The new drone will also include the new ADS-B sensor which would allow the drone to pick up and let other aircraft in the area know its there. Where a message will then be shown in the app letting you know an aircraft is nearby. The Mavic Air 2 is likely to be over the 250-gram limit as DJI already has it covered with the Mavic Mini, so be prepared to register the drone.

Wanna bet Canon will launch the APS-C EOS-R7 in 2021 and slowly kill the EOS-M system?

There are some wild rumors about a possible EOS-R7 APS-C camera coming in 2021. Without having any knowledge yet if this is really going to happen I have near zero doubts that this will eventually happen. The reason is quite simple. In this shrinking market it makes absolute ZERO sense for Canon to continue the EOS-M system.

I am pretty sure we will get an APS-C camera within 2 years and that current EOS-M users might be offered a big trade-in program to switch over.
