Mirrorless news roundup.

Fuji X100 review at DigitalPhotographySchool (Click here): “This is quite a camera! If only Cartier-Bresson were alive I’m sure he would embrace its street shooting prowess. It will not appeal to the casual shooter: I was (forgive me!) continually searching for the zoom control!

New Nikon news and tests…

Cnet Asia (Click here) wrote a first take test about the new Nikon 1 V1: “The company tells us it aims to target entry-level users with the introduction of the J1 and V1. But we wonder if compact upgraders will choose Nikon over other brands such as Panasonic’s feature-rich Lumix series and Sony’s NEX series with their larger APS-C sensors. In an already crowded ILC segment, Nikon will need a clear marketing strategy in order to reach out to shutterbugs.

Nikon V1 first impression review at ePhotozine (Click here): “It’s nice to see 4 lenses available at launch with another 7 already in advanced stages of development. This gives the Nikon 1 system more lenses than some other manufacturers have planned for their mirrorless system!

Video on top: Interview by Amateur Photographer.

The probably most interesting news is coming via Imaging Resource (Click here). They interviewed MR. Masahiro Suzuki (General Manager R&D, Nikon). There are a couple of interesting news:
1) Development began four years ago before the Micro Four Thirds announcement!
2) “We are quite confident that we achieved almost exactly the same quality as our DSLR.“. Editor’s note.: Really? First tests tell us a completely different story! Anyway, Masahiro says image quality is good because of the 24 channel readout design and huge processing power.
3) About the sensor: “We developed it; we engineered and developed this sensor inside Nikon. But for the production side, that is done by our partner.

Interesting or not?

P.S.: There is a new Nikon 1 V1 review at CNET Asia (Click here): “From the 100 percent crop samples, you can see that the J1’s sample images have less noise but image detail is softened. Whereas the GF3 provides more image detail while suffering from noise scattered around the image. The GF3 has an edge in sharpness, which could be attributed to its 12-megapixel sensor which is twice as large as the J1’s. As the J1 is still a preproduction model, we hope that Nikon will improve the processing algorithm to enhance image detail at high ISOs.

There are quite many news on the web about the new Nikon mirrorless cameras. Let’s just pickup some of them. What’s interesting are the size comparisons with other mirrorless cameras. Engadget compared the Sony NEX-C3 and the new Nikon J1 sensor size comparison (Scroll the article to see the image). Huge difference! Quesabesde compared the body size of the Olympus E-PM1 with the size of the Nikon V1.

And now it’s time for some image samples! You can find them on Fotopolis, Imaging Resource and Digitalcamerareview.

One mroe thing: The pictures of the future lenses can be seen at Photographyblog. But there is no info about specs and price, just anonymous mockups :(

Pentax Q reviews

The image on top is from Quesabesde (Click here) which wrote a full Pentax Q test. But here are plenty of more reviews and hands- on at BJPonline, Photography Blog, DPhotographer UK, Amateur Photographer and WhatDigitalCamera.

That little tiny camera is already a hotseller in Japan (See BCNranking) but I cannot imagine that camera to sell well in “western” countries. Anyway, this is up to you. My job here is to give you all latest reviews ;)
