Fuji’s take on the competition: Sony is weak on lenses. Nikon and Canon will “seriously” join the mirrorless crowd.

fujifilm-x-pro2

Mr. Toru Takahashi and Toshihisa Iida from Fuji got interviewed by Dpreview. There are many interesting insights about the new X-PRO 2 development. But we want to focus on what they think about the competition:

Sony:
Sony has a big advantage, they make their own sensors. That is a very big advantage for them, but they are weak in lenses. And they are weakened by having so many formats. APS-C, full-frame, [across both] DSLR and mirrorless. So their lens division must be under a lot of pressure!

Nikon-Canon “serious” move into mirrorless:
They will. For sure. But the question is just how soon.

Samsung:
I am not surprised (that Samsung apparently retreated from the mirrorless camera market). I think that their cameras are mechanically good, but something is missing. Heart, or emotion. That’s just my personal opinion. Samsung’s processing engines are so powerful, as in the NX1. But a camera is more than just a processor. It’s a lens, sensor, processor, ergonomics and operability and also [customer] service and everything.”

Interesting, it seems like Fuji doesn’t see the Micro Four Thirds system as a real competition.

Sony RX1R II gets fixed by Sony and reviewed bt TCSTV

At last Sony gave us the reason why the RX1rII production stopped. There was a light leak issue on cameras serial number from 6310198 to 6311127. If you own a camera with that serial number you will get it repaired by Sony. The RX1RII will go regularly back on sale from February 19.

And now you can watch the video review posted by our friends from TCSTV!

This is an “ugly” new “beast”! Leica announces the X-U Rugged camera

Leica_X-U_front

This camera will not win a beauty contest but it will not fail you in situation where most cameras would crash. Leica announced the new X-U Rugged camera (full press text at Explora):

This tough, German-made camera has a waterproof depth rating of 49′ for up to 60 minutes, or IP68. In terms of shock-proofing, its anti-slip rubber exterior is tested to withstand a drop from 4′ high onto a 2-inch-thick wood surface. The body itself, aside from being durable, is of the intuitive design expected from Leica, managing to incorporate a manual focus ring onto the lens, a 3.0″ 920k-dot rear LCD, and a variety of rear controls. To make the X waterproof and durable, the rear dial has been replaced with “plus” and “minus” buttons for fast setting adjustment. Along with all of this, the lens has a built-in flash on top that will help to illuminate dark scenes.

You can preorder it for $2,950 only(!?!?!) at Bhphoto (Click here).

Confirmed: Sony A6100 to be announced in early February

nex_7_main_0

After a couple of delays the new A6100 is going to be announced in early February. On SonyAlphaRumors there is also a report about a second mirrorless camera but I got no reliable info about that one.

So far it’s rumored the A6100 will feature a new 36MP sensor. But this still has to be verified by trusted sources.

If you really want to hear a very wild (also unreliable rumor) than the second Sony mirrorless is a new Full Frame E-mount. But take that one with ease…

Sony will launch a new E-mount lens series named: “G-Master”

G-master

So, after Batis, Loxia, A-mount lenses, E-mount lenses, FF and APS-C Sony camera owners will get another chance to get even more confused! Just joking ;)

Sony trademarked a new logo for a new Sony FE “G-Master” lens series. G-mast er will define the High End E-mount lenses probably for hybrid shooters (powerzoom). The first lens that Sony will announce is the new 24-70mm f/2.8 FE lens.
