Nikon interview at Dpreview gives us little hope about a “serious” mirrorless system camera launch

Nikon1

Dpreview interviewed Nikon managers at Photokina. Here are a couple of info:

  1. For now we’ll keep Nikon 1 as usual.’ The sudden focus on KeyMission doesn’t take away from this
  2. Some manufacturers have tried to enter the DSLR market with their mirrorless camera or something. Our standpoint is different. Because our product mix covers full-frame and APS-C DSLR and the Nikon 1, these three product categories mean we offer to the full lineup and we receive each customer’s good reactions.

Nikon makes it sounds as like they don’t need to make an APS-C or FF mirrorless system camera. But we know from past interviews that Nikon always is very “conservative” when it comes to information sharing. So let’s hope this is just an interview that “hides” their real FF mirrorless intentions…

Canon develops a new Large-Format CMOS sensor with Global Shutter!

canoncmos

Canon will soon present a new Super 35mm 4K CMOS sensor having the following key features:

  • Global Shutter
  • High Resolution (exact Megapixel count has not been disclosed yet)
  • 4 pixel readout for high dynamic range (92dB at a standard 30fps frame rate)

Above you can see a comparison between the new Canon sensor with Global Shutter compared with a conventional Rolling Shutter sensor. It is yet unclear when the new sensor will be production ready.

New Q2 financial reports released: Bad news for Canon and Fuji

canon

Both Canon (PDF here) and Fuji (PDF here) released their Q2 financial report. Both companies had declining sales and earnings caused by different factors like compact camera sales drop, YEN appreciation. And both companies forecast now expect a further increase in sales and revenue. The one good news for Fuji is that they had strong X-T2 sales.

Easy to expects similar results from the other companies too. The question is still the same: Who will survive this constant decline?
