Canon develops a new Large-Format CMOS sensor with Global Shutter!

Canon will soon present a new Super 35mm 4K CMOS sensor having the following key features:

  • Global Shutter
  • High Resolution (exact Megapixel count has not been disclosed yet)
  • 4 pixel readout for high dynamic range (92dB at a standard 30fps frame rate)

Above you can see a comparison between the new Canon sensor with Global Shutter compared with a conventional Rolling Shutter sensor. It is yet unclear when the new sensor will be production ready.

New Q2 financial reports released: Bad news for Canon and Fuji

Both Canon (PDF here) and Fuji (PDF here) released their Q2 financial report. Both companies had declining sales and earnings caused by different factors like compact camera sales drop, YEN appreciation. And both companies forecast now expect a further increase in sales and revenue. The one good news for Fuji is that they had strong X-T2 sales.

Easy to expects similar results from the other companies too. The question is still the same: Who will survive this constant decline?

New rumor roundup: X-T2 and X-T1 firmware, FS7II and E-M1II launch.

Quick roundup of the latest rumors:

  1. This week Fuji will launch a new firmware update for the X-T2 and X-T1 (details at Fujirumors).
  2. Sony will launch the new FS7II E-mount camcorder in early November
  3. Sony is also rumored to launch a new 16-35mm f/2.8 GM lens within the next fe months (SonyAlphaRumors).
  4. Olympus will officially launch the E-M1II on November 2 (preorder start on that day and shipment start in early December)
