Nope, I was right! Leica Mini M specs are boring :)

The Latest Leica teaser mande me think that they may were playing us fool. But I got again new confirmatiosn that the specs I posted and the image I shared were the real deal! And also my friend Peter from Leicarumors got the same confirmation from his sources. He writes the final name will be Leica X Vario Type 107 – you can see the label on the top plate of the camera in the picture above. All of the initial rumors were true, here are the detailed specifications:

What a rumor story for such a boring camera!
  • BbICEP

Are they crazy? They better concentrate on producing high quality lenses. All cameras they do are cr@p.

  • MarcoSartoriPhoto

I don’t trust this rumor. I may appear stubborn, but this slow lens is not what I expect from Leica. Perhaps other specs are correct, but not those of the lens IMO.

  • Will

It will be interesting to see if this sells purely to rich dudes who like the name… I mean who else would buy one unless they just liked Leica or the look of it? It’s turning out to be the opposite of their main M camera, completely not made with photographers in mind. But it might still sell??

    • M43_Shooter

I scorned at the X1 like everybody else before I had the chance to grab a relatively cheap (yet beat up) one on eBay. £420/USD650 was what I paid for a well-used X1. I’ve gotta say there’s something about it that makes me prefer it to the Fuji X100 which I also had a go at. It’s making me very tempted to buy the X2 as well, despite the high price tag and the rather “negative” brand image. And before you say I’m just another guy fixating on the Leica brand, I have my X1 all blacked out. I still have a little hope left for them to pull off the same trick with the new X camera despite the miserable specs.

  • xc1427

I think this is not the final spec. This is just a marketing campaign that makes you very disappointed, in order to make you fxxking surprised several days later. They shouldn’t have made mistake on pixel number if the first leaked image with french spec is true.

  • jim

Someone needs to be fired for been so out of touch with the market.

    • John

This isn’t the camera. Its just a re photoshoped image of the the original false rumor. relax.

Just wanted to point out I was also right with my comment couple of days ago ;)

“If I am not mistaken this will be the first compact with an APS-C Sensor and a zoom lens. This is probably how they plan to sell it.”

  • Mr Hipsta

“Price: around 3000 EUR” and “Price: around 2,500 EUR”
    Neither suits the camera.

  • peevee

It is not so boring given that is the only current APS-C camera with a built-in zoom. Sony R1 was so long ago.
All thoseFuji X100/Ricoh GR/Nikon A/Sigma DP are boring, single FL cameras.
Most DSLRs are used just with the kit lenses just about as dark – only bigger.

    • kodachromeguy

I still occasionally use the R1 from the office. It has an amazing f/2.8-4.8 Carl Zeiss lens – nice output, especially with the RAW files. The R1 cost about $800 several years ago. But this new Leica is 2,500 or 3,000 Euros? Is that possible?

  • Vivek

All the hype surrounding this is playing well for the rumored Sony RX-200. Leica beat their broken drums and Sony cash in on a market they (Sony themselves) already built!

Only saving grace for Leica is to immediately issue a Paul Smith edition.

    Wonderful! :D

  • Camaman

I still don’t believe one fact and that is the lens speed. (I remember on one pic the letters were inverted and on the other not…)

No way can they produce THAT lens as their best.
Its non removable, therefor it can be of exotic design and retain speed and/or size.

I hope that will be their surprise. If not than its just another Leica dud and hey would be better of re-branding a m43 Panasonic

    • Hendrick

The problem is, the size of the lens (to make it as compact as possible) may actually reflect the slow aperture with the focal lengths it tries to cover.

A 2.8-4 lens would have been considerably larger, or poorer optical performance for a smaller size, and that may have been the trade of Leica wanted to play with. So, a slow lens that could have great IQ and that is compact may be something they thought was worthwhile going for.

  • John

This rumor is false. It’s just the photo from the original rumor. They just highlighted the left corner and added Leica font to make it look official. The owner of this site has no idea what he is talking about.

  • N Camera

ok if this camera is fake, then what will the aperture be?
because according to the size alone of the camera, the aperture
wont be anything close to being fast at the telephoto end.

the fastest it can be is at f5.6, or the lens barrel would have to be
larger, and that would through off the ergonomics of the camera

So im calling this one “The actual one”

    • til

2.500 for a nex with a slow zoom lens ….

only FF would make it interesting

    SAD !!!!
