First pictures of the Samsung NX mini!

NXrumors (translation here) posted the first pictures of the Samsung NX mini (ah NXF1). The specs also got leaked on a presentation PDF:

20 million pixels a “back-illuminated CMOS which appears to be the same used by the Sony RX100II.
Has a new sort of mini NX mount and comes with two lenses: 9mm and a 9-27mm lens
DRIMe 4 processor
1/16000s maximum shutter speed
3 “LCD IPS Screen swiveling Like MV800
Built-in flash
22fps continuous shooting
ISO 160-12800
1080p/30p video capabilities
Micro SD
Super continuous shooting capability

NXF1 thickness is less than 35mm, and the 9mm lens is only 12mm thick.

Announcement in less than one month! Price yet not unveiled.

    I really think that trying to make it ultra thin is not that important – as the lenses will always stick out on interchangeable lens cameras – A tad wider and more manual controls is what I think is more important –
    Like the Sony A7/r – yes a very small body but as it is Full Frame the lenses are still the size of Full Frame lenses that we have today – so for example the FE mount 70-200mm F4.0 is huge for that little body – and it is not even a F2.8 lens – the key is to make smaller lenses as well – and I mean a lot smaller lenses – and then these thinner and very small bodies might make a bit more sense – but then if they are to thin and tiny then it becomes hard to hold them – so there is a happy medium

      Lens length can only be _slightly_ reduced by ajusting traditional lens construction, but it hurts image quality. Mirror lenses is a much more effective solution in lenght reduction, but altso that has significant drawbacs (bokeh, astigmatism). Reducing real focal length is another very effective solution, but to get the same view, the sensor size has to be reduced equally. In short, there is no shortcut to a lot smaller lenses.

      Lens diameter can be reduced by reducing max apperture. Lets say to f/8. This also cuts weight significantly.

      Small cameras accompanied by small lenses imply small sensors, short or no zoom, normal focal length(s) and small apperture. With this in mind samsung NXF1 looks to push the bondries of compactness for 1″ sensor size. Im curious to see the f-numbers of those lenses and how NXF1 compares to the Nikon 1-series.

      the 9mm in the picture is just 12mm thick and is the equivalent of a 24mm so looks like the lenses can be made pretty thin

    I wonder if this will cause any over heating problems? I also don’t see the point unless you are using a pancake lens..This could work well for vloggers etc.. I would think this is not to be taken seriously especially if pink is the introduction color.

      and the thousands of people that bought the Sony RX100 and NIKON 1 series were vloggers haha

    Samsung using Sony sensor? I doubt it…

    OTOH, if they teamed up with Nikon and used their CX mount, it would be excellent, since there are already several lenses available. They don’t have too many overlapping products, so that partnership could be beneficial for both companies.

      It’s more likely that they’ve designed their own sensor by examining Sony’s sensor, but staying clear of patent issues.

      It would make sense to team up with someone, but they didn’t even work that well with Pentax.

    Great Samsung! This is an interesting first step. Just do this in a more serious package with more external controls and probably will sell tons of this stuff. I´d like also to see a faster zoom lens.

    I imagine it doesn’t use a Sony sensor, more likely a custom Samsung sensor or Aptina. Since the Samsung supports 22fps and the Sony only 10 fps. The Aptina does 60 fps in the Nikon, but is also lower resolution. So my bet is that this is a Samsung sensor, or possibly a newer version of the Sony, which I imagine Samsung would try to avoid using.
