Nikon just said in NHK interview that new mirrorless cameras will be on market by Spring 2019

Nikoneye.com just spotted a new Nikon interview streamed by NHK. Adn we finally got an exact timeframe of WHEN the new Nikon mirrorless cameras will be on market.
It might be that Nikon will show the new cameras at this years Photokina. But it seems like we will still have to wait til Spring 2019 before the postman will deliver it to your home.

There is yet no rumor about the possible specs from the Nikon mirrorless. Form what we heard those Z-mount specs going around the web are pretty much wrong. All we can do is some guessing:

  • It will be Full frame
  • It will have a newly designed sensor with PDAF
  • Nikon F mount adapter will be priced very low and deliver nearly “native” autofocus speed
  • At least three lenses will be announced with the camera and probably a roadmap will be disclosed too

Join the new Nikon mirrorless facebook group to discuss your wishlist and possible specs :)

SankeiBiz says Nikon will announce their high End Mirrorless “within the current fiscal year”

The Japanese website SankeiBiz reported some info about the future Nikon high end camera:

– Development of the new mirrorless is advancing rapidly
– Goal is to release the camera within the current fiscal year (which means til March 2019).
– It will probably be shown at a large-scale overseas exhibition (I guess this means Photokina in September)

Within the same article they also confirm that Canon wants to become number one in the mirrorless market too.

Canon has a major mirrorless event in mid May. Something big to be announced?

Our trusted sources told us that Canon invited them to a major event in mid May. This includes a flight and a stay in a luxury hotel. Canon told them this event is related to the mirrorless system and specifically to the Canon EOS-M50.

So here the facts do end. And the speculation goes wild for the following reasons:

  1. The sources told us many people were invited and many of them got a Canon invitation for the very first time! Quite an effort for an EOS-M50.
  2. Canon is creating such a big event to talk about a camera that was announced three months ago?

We have no reliable info yet but everyone here is thinking there must be more than just a 2 days talk about the EOS-M50. What if Canon will take the chance to finally announce a FF mirrorless? Just speculation for now but I hope to get some more info soon!
