LensVid Exclusive: What Happened to the Photography Industry in 2014?

Lensvid made the great effort to summarize the photo industry market. And as expected the scenario is quite negative. Only Mirrorless system cameras manage to have no loss during the year. But it also has to be said that the amount of mirrorless cameras sold is still very low compared to DSLR.

Here is also a video from Lensvid which explains the data in detail:

Samsung NX1: Firmware update coming almost every month!

One of our long time Samsung sources shared some great info about the NX1:

1) Samsung will apply the Fuji Kaizen philosophy on the NX1, It means they plan to constantly upgrade the camera via firmware updates. The next couple of months you should expect to great firmware update almost…monthly! Samsung is collecting feedback from owners to tweak and improve the cam.

2) The NX1 is now selling very very well. In some markets the demand is higher than the supply. Hence the price will stay unchanged for months, possibly many months, differently from the original plans. Even in USA the NX1 is now selling better according to Amazon mirrorless camera ranking (Click here).

Ok, good to hear the NX1 sells well but they could please us with a small price drop anyway…don’t you Samsung? :)

We love that: Canon shows a new 120 megapixel sensor!

Guys! Be prepared. Soon you will have to buy ton of hardware to handle the 120 megapixel photos that the new Canon sensor will take!

Dpreview reports:

Its surface area is halfway between APS-C and full-frame, and it appears to be mostly directed at video applications, capable of recording at approximately 60x the resolution of Full HD. The frame rate of read-out for this ultra high-resolution is 9.5fps, and is made possible by reading multiple pixels simultaneously at high speeds – a process Canon is calling ‘parallel signal processing’. The 120 million pixels – of 2.2 µm pixel pitch – are contained on a sensor 29.2mm x 20.2mm in size, yielding pixel dimensions of 13280×9184.

We love that new crazy Megapixel race! Finally we can take 100+ Megapixel shots of our beloved cats sitting on a sofa :)

Fotosidan had a small talk with Olympus manager Setsuya Kataoka. And he confirmed that they plan to launch super fast Micro Four Thirds lenses in the near future.

Olympus lately filed patents for a couple of f/1.0 and f/1.2 fast primes. Like the 12mm, 13mm and 14mm f/1.0 you see on their official patent description table below:
