Pentax announces the crazy looking Evangelion flavored Q10s

I always liked Pentax because they have the necessary guts to think out of the box. And sometimes they go so far that there is no box at all
Pentax Japan just announced that limited edition of “Evangelion” Q10 cameras. There will be only 1,500 of them and they will be sold in Japan only too. At least in Japan the Q series proved to be a good seller. Can’t wait to see what Pentax will show us with their next APS-C mirrorless camera announcements! You have some ideas?

Sergio
4 months ago |Of course they will only be sold in Japan. Where I live, there are no camera stores that carry Pentax at all. Even a camera store that has nearly every camera brand in it (including something as expensive as a M9 and M10) but yet no Pentax.

4 months ago |Call me crazy but I like them. If I was in the market for a Q10 I would buy the ray version. I think it’s great that it looks like a toy camera because people see that and are disarmed by its juvenile appearance. That makes street photography even easier.
I always think its silly how people think that a black camera makes them look inconspicuous when its the opposite.
People are intimidated by professional looking camera and black looks more professional.

Sergio
4 months ago |+2 I don’t know where that black and inconspicuous thing comes from and frankly I think is bull too. The appearance of amateurish is way less intimidating in my experience.
And if these colorful cameras appeal to girls, what better way to get them to buy more than one to match their outfits.

4 months ago |Simply commercial decision because both (the new movie and the sad toys) are named “Q”.
The actual animators behind the scene, however, are known to be die hard Olympus fans. Some love the XA2 especially…
But there surly will never be a Evangelion EM-5, lol.

What’s wrong with that? No one is forcing anyone to buy one.
But can we have the Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon series next, please?
And to balance things up a bit, may I draw your attention to Fuu Sawatari and her Rollei 35S in Tamayura Hitotose? She’s someone who eschews the instantness of digital for the deliberation of film.

Maybe they would sell better
Edgar
4 months ago |Dude, Pentax still make great enthusiast grade cameras (something that they have always done.) They’ve never gone for the professional level market.
This is just a fun run of cameras for their camera line that is specifically designed for amatuers who want a inexpensive camera that can do more than a camera phone or point an shoot but isn’t a full out DSLR.
> This history will repeat for olympus, sony and panasonic cameras if they keep on the same path.
You mean those companies who have dominated the mirrorless market and are making hand over fist with their NEX and M4/3 lines? Oh yeah, they are definetly not listening to the market.
Edgar
4 months ago |http://www.cameradebate.com/2012/mirrorless-market-share-2011-2012/
Mirrorless interchangeable lens systems (in a very few short years) now make up 22.7% of the ILC market share.
In Japan, that market share is now at 46%.
So yes, these companies *are* making money hand over fist. Do a little research before you freak out next time.

You are the delusional one Olympus, Sony and Panasonic camera divisions are actually losing money hand over fist
.
There latest figures based on the CIPA shipping information show a fall in the mirrorless market share of interchangeable cameras only 42% of cameras shipped to Japanese retailers last year were mirrorless with the rest being DSLR .
Way too much of the mFT market share is down to low end , low profit margin kit being sold at give away prices. Sadly the likes of the Nikon 1 and the godawful Canon eos have y=taken a surprising percentage of the mirrorless market
