Two unusual Sony camera stories: A7s sent up to 91,000 feet. 16-50mm teardown.

A group of friends launched a stratospheric balloon with five cameras from the Presidio in San Francisco, capturing sweeping views of the Bay Area. The balloon traveled south along the Pacific coast, bursts at an altitude of 91,470 ft, and lands near Salinas, over 100 miles away. The camera they used to shot these images were a Sony A7s.

Sony’s new GM lenses will ship on March 31. A6300 camera will ship on March 1.

BHphoto (Click here) is now accepting preorders on the new Sony GM lenses and the new A6300 camera. They also unveiled the shipment dates (March 31 for the lenses and March 1 for the camera).

It is still unkown when the third GM lens, the 70-200mm will ship…

 

New High End fixed lens Nikon compact cameras

Nikon is likely going to try to compete against the Sony RX series by launching new high-end compact can fixed lens cameras at the CP+ show (End of February). Nikonrumors reports there will be three versions of such cameras (unclear what the sensor size will be). These will be the equivalent focal lengths:

• Wide angle: 18-50mm f/1.8-2.8
• Normal range: 24-80mm f/1.8-2.8
• Superzoom: 24-500mm f/2.8-5.6

I am pretty sure the 24-500mm version has a 1 inch sensor. If it’s APS-C I will become a priest :)

Due the high deman Fuji will ship the X-PRO2 from March 25 only!

Beware Fuji folks! You will have to suffer extra 30 days more before your new X-PRO2 will ship! According to BHphoto the first stock of cameras will ship out of their store on March 25. Fuji said the delay is caused by an unexpected high demand. But “sources” from Fujirumors said there is also firmware fix to be made that could be the real reason why Fuji delayed the shipment start.

Fuji’s next new lens is rumored to be the XF 200mm f/2.0

Fuji lovers will get a new 200mm f/2.0 lens at Photokina (September 2016). There is yet no word about the price of the lens but let’s hope it costs than the Canon 200mm f/2.0 lens ($5,700 at BH).
