Fuji is working on a new Top End APS-C X-Trans camera that will cost $5000

I really don’t know how much sense it makes but according Fuji seems to be working on a new $5,000!!! High End APS-C X-Trans camera. This would be Fuji’s first camera for professional sports and action photographers. The key on that camera seems to achieve maximum autofocus speed. But I really wonder if someone will spend $5,000 on an APS-C mirrorless camera yet. It will be hard for anyone to compete against the well established Nikon/Canon sport photography dominance.

Sony registered a new camera in China and it could be a new FF E-mount

Sony registered a new camera model in China (at Miit.gov.cn ). The registration doens’t unveil any specs of the camera but the code uses is “WW361847”. The “WW3” prefix has been used inthe past on five of the six ccurrent available A7 cameras. So maybe there is a chance we are going to see a new FFE-mount camera soon. Usually it takes 1-2 months before a newly registered camera gets announced.

We don’t know yet if this is going to be the new A7III or the first model of the new Professional A9 line. About the latter SAR reports this

  1. The camera under development seems to have 2 models.
One is high-resolution model around 70MP, and the other is super high-performance AF, super high speed continuous shooting, and super high ISO sensitivity model.
  2. The first model to be released will be the low rez and super high-performance AF camera
  3. I don’t know whether both models are released like ?7, 7R or A9.
  4. Many professional photographers introduce Emount, and Sony receives many requests from professional photographers through PRO support. High-end Emount camera (probably ?9) will become the camera in response to the demand of professional photographers.
  5. The camera with lower resolution sensor is very fast and has in its prototype stage shoots around 20 fps
  6. Estimated price range is $6,000

Meyer Optik Görlitz ’Mystery lens’ will be unveiled this Thursday on Kickstarter

Meyer Optik Görlitz just sent me this:

Dear Meyer-Optik supporter,

Get ready – the final jewel of our Trioplan Trilogy of lenses will be unveiled this Thursday at 10 a.m. EST (4 p.m. CET) on Kickstarter.
While we can’t reveal the exact details of this lens, it will bring the Trioplan’s signature “soap bubble bokeh” to a wide angle lens for the first time. We think street and nature photographers will both be excited about the creative potential of this new lens.
Don’t miss your chance to be one of the first in line to get this new Trioplan lens, which will join the Trioplan 100mm f2.8 and Trioplan 50mm f2.9 in the Meyer-Optik lineup of premier, hand-crafted art lenses. Of course early Kickstarter backers will benefit from a groundbreaking price.

Best regards,
Dr. Stefan Immes and the Meyer-Optik Team

Max Yuryev explains Why you Shouldn’t Buy The EOS M5…

Well known Youtuber Max Yuryev explains why you Shouldn’t Buy The EOS M5. And this is going to upset quite some Canon fan!

On the other hand DxOmark tested the EOS-M5 sensor and is quite satisfied with the results:

Taken together with the 24.2-MP Dual Pixel AF CMOS sensor and Digital IS, it all signals Canon’s intention to compete more seriously with rivals in the mirrorless segment. With hindsight, it seems like the Dual Pixel AF CMOS was designed with mirrorless in mind. Image quality is similar to that of the sensor found on the EOS 80D.

Fuji GFX versus the crazy Phase One 100 megapixel camera!

You want to see what’s the difference between the Fuji GFX 50 Megapixel 44x33mm sensor and the Phase One 100 Megapixel 54x40mm sensor? At Imaging Resource you can compare the Lab Shots. Here are quick links to full size samples:
ISO 100: GFX vs XF100
ISO 1600: GFX vs XF100
ISO 6400: GFX vs XF100

The findings so far:
– At ISO 100 the XF100 shows an incredible resolution and color information.
– At higher ISO the XF100 really sucks. Phase One does a terrible job when you crank up the ISO! Images are very noisy compared to the Fuji with lot of color artifacts.

Phase One is known for being useful for landscape photographers and studio work. So they don’t are used to work at high ISO and it seems they lack the knowledge and power of Fuji.
