7Artisans will launch three new lenses soon: 12mm f/2.8, 35mm f/1.2 and 35mm f/2.0

Richard Wong got the details about three new lenses that will be launched by 7Artisans:

7Artisans contacted me and told me about their upcoming product roadmap which they haven’t announce before. They have three new lenses coming out before end of this year:

1. 12mm f/2.8 lens for cropped sensor mirrorless cameras: Sony E, Canon EOS-M, Fuji X and Micro Four Thirds.

2. 35mm f/1.2 lens for cropped sensor mirrorless cameras: Sony E, Canon EOS-M, Fuji X and Micro Four Thirds.

3. 35mm f/2 lens for Leica M Mount cameras. And unlike their 50mm f/1.1 lens (review link in this post), the aperture lens of the 35 f/2 will have clicks!!! The de-clicked aperture ring on the 50 f/1.1 lens is probably the biggest complaint I’ve heard about this lens and I did contact them while I was working on the review and suggested them to consider making a clicked version for their future M lenses. So it’s great to hear they are listening to customers!!

No price or other information about these lenses yet, but they promised they’ll let me know as soon as they are available (which can’t be too far away as it’s already Nov!)

Detailed Panasonic G9 specs leaked


The new Panasonic G9 got officially registered (Source: Wifi Alliance).

43rumors leaked the Panasonic G9 key specs:

– It will have a 20.3 MP sensor without an AA filter.
– 80 MP mode combined from 8 images.
– 6K Photo mode,
– 60FPS AFS.
– 2 slots for SD card
– Magnesium body, freeze proof up to -10 Celsius degrees
– 3,680k-dot OLED LVF
– Rear joystick for focus points
– Top plate LCD
– Large buffer with no slow down
– available after Christmas

The camera will be announced on November 6

 

Is the new L16 a real DSLR killer? The answer is no :(

From the beginning, Light has touted their technology in general and the L16 in particular as a “DSLR killer.” You can see this (and hear some deeper details about their technology) in Dave Etchells’ interview with Light’s CEO and CTO from a few years back here.

Imaging Resource examined the L16 images and came to a different conclusion:

The camera doesn’t seem to be able to accurately gauge depth at a level commensurate with subject detail, and therefore seems to “guess” when it’s not sure. The guesswork comes across as smearing, often in bands. It appears in certain areas during obvious depth transition, but other times for no apparent reason.

Still a liong way before compact cameras or smartphones can match or even beat “real” system cameras.

Panasonic G9 will be announced on November 6. And it has 80 Megapixel multi-shot mode

A Panasonic Lumix ambassador (un?)-intentionally spilled out some details about the new Panasonic MFT camera that will be unveiled on November 6. The post got removed but folks over at Fred Miranda were quick screengrabbing the info:

-80 MP shooting mode (by stitching together multiple pics)
– It can stitch together 6 pics and create 1 GB files
– 60 pic frame burst
– Large buffer with no slow down
– available after Christmas

News roundup: DxO acquires Nik Collection, Macphun becomes Skylum and new Hasselblad X1D firmware update

Here are three industry news we didn’t report earlier because of all the PhotoPlus announcements:

1) The Adobe competitor Macphun changed its name in Skylum (MacPhun Blog)

2) DxO acquires Nik Collection assets from Google (Nikcollection).

3) Hasselblad X1D Firmware Update 1.19 released. New features:

Touch-pad selection of AF point
New setting: Live view in EVF only
Custom buttons
New setting: Max aperture (Lens bokeh)
Create new folder
Toggle overlay in Video Live View with display button

So how does the new Sony A7rIII stuck against the best camera from the competition? Imaging Resource writes:

The A7R III has a crispness to the blues in the eye that the other two seem to lack, resulting in a sort of grey overtone from both the Nikon and the Fuji. What may be the most impressive is how well the new Sony FE 24-105 f/4 hangs with Nikon’s new 24-70mm and Fuji’s 63mm. 

I think that with exception of the Canon the other cameras are really pretty darn close. The biggest issue I see now is that it’s hard to justify the high price tag of the GFX. I think the difference will be more obvious once the GFX-100 gets released.
