Official images of the Blackmagic and Panasonic MFT cameras.

We have some official product images of two new MFT cameras. One is the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera that comes with a Super 16 sized HD sensor. That sensor has around 2 Megapixels and a 3x crop factor. The camera has one single cool. Shoot the best video quality (with CinemaDNG RAW) in a pocket size and for a low price ($995). I am sure that camera will beat the video quality og the $1299 Panasonic GH3!

Speaking of Panaosnic. here is the official image of the Panasonic GF6 that is going to be announced very soon at 5am CET time.

First surprise of the NABshow. Supercompact MFT camera from Blackmagic.

This really came totally unexpected. Blackmagic announced a pocket sized MFT mount camera with Super 16 sensor. It is a sort of very compact cinema camera with “13 stops dynamic range, Super 16 sized 1080 HD sensor, SD card recorder, high resolution LCD, ProRes and lossless CinemaDNG RAW recording, active Micro Four Thirds Lens compatibility, and micro HDMi monitoring with overlays.”

Now filmmaker can have a super camcorder in their pocket! Amazing work done by Blackmagic!

That is not an April fools joke: Modified Sigma DP with interchangeable M-mount!

I long asked Sigma to make a DP series with interchangeable lens mount. And someone in China listened to me :)

Over at Taobab (translation here) they are selling modified Sigma DP cameras with an M-mount!!! You have to send in your Sigma DP camera and for1880.00 Yuan ($300 or 230 Euro) they will add you the M-mount. And they plan to add more mounts in future! Sounds great! Will let you know if some of these cameras hit on eBay. Meantime…meditate Sigma..meditate… and give us a serious mirrorless and interchangeable system with an excellent new generation of foveon sensors!

Worldwide smallest DSLR from Canon vs EOS-M

And here it is the smallest DSLR ever made! It is the new Canon EOS 100D/Rebel SL1. Price specs and preorders are up at Amazon, Adorama and BHphoto. So is that the right weapon for Canon to battle against the mirrorless system cameras?

Dpreview posted that size comparison between the previous Rebel T4i vs the new SL1 and the Canon own EOS-M mirrorless camera. The size reduction on the width has been noticeable but the camera is still almost as thick as the T41 making it rather bully compared to the EOS-M. And I doubt you can get any smaller than this as the limit is represented by the flange distance between mount and sensor. I don’t know what to think about a camera like the SL1. It is almost too small for a DSLR (can’t hold it well while looking into the viewfinder) and too big to fit in your pocket. What’s your opinion?

New Minox cameras listed at BH!

A new Minox camera has been listed by the US store BHphoto (Click here). It’s a 14 Megapixel fixed lens camera. That’s a 9 Megapixel increase over the previous model. It is certainly not going to compete against the high end compacts a la Fuji X100s. But this camera has one simple goal. To be as tiny as possible :)
