Shrinking market, strong YEN, Brexit and Trumpism (LOL) are lifting the prices of cameras. And that’s why you will not like this: Today Olympus announced the E-M1II pricing:
In USA you can preorder it for $1,999 at Amazon, BHphoto and Adorama.
I am pretty sure all future new cameras from all companies will have those kind of new crazy high prices…
CIPA released the September camera shipment report. A look at the system camera graph shows a small sign of hope: The camera shipment in September was almost equal to those of the year before. And this despite the negative Kumamoto impact.
I know this is really a very very very small good news. But maybe we reached the bottom of the four-year long fall in system camera sales?
Now let’s imaging you just won $10,000 on the lottery and you can spend them either on the new Fuji GFX or on the Hasselblad X1D….
I know this is a hard choice. Personally I like the X1D design and leaf shutter. But I acknowledge there are clear advantages for many by having a focal plane shutter and the Fuji switchable EVF.
Dpreview interviewed Nikon managers at Photokina. Here are a couple of info:
Nikon makes it sounds as like they don’t need to make an APS-C or FF mirrorless system camera. But we know from past interviews that Nikon always is very “conservative” when it comes to information sharing. So let’s hope this is just an interview that “hides” their real FF mirrorless intentions…
Both Canon (PDF here) and Fuji (PDF here) released their Q2 financial report. Both companies had declining sales and earnings caused by different factors like compact camera sales drop, YEN appreciation. And both companies forecast now expect a further increase in sales and revenue. The one good news for Fuji is that they had strong X-T2 sales.
Easy to expects similar results from the other companies too. The question is still the same: Who will survive this constant decline?
Leica announced the new Summaron 28mm f/5.6 lens (official page here). Leica writes:
Through its combination of extreme depth of field, natural contrast, excellent rendition of details and visible vignetting, the lens gives images a unique character. Pictures made with the Summaron-M stand out from all others with a look reminiscent of analogue photography.
At the same time Leica also annoucned the Titanium version of the Leica Q.
