As reported on 43rumors today Olympus announced it will sell the camera business to JIP. JIP says they will restructure the business but I doubt this will happen in a way that will make the MFT system continue. Most of Olympus camera owners were loyal to the Olympus brand and history. JIP is just an anonymous business player and if Olympus didn’t believe they couldn’t save the Imaging Business how is JIP supposed to do so?
My guess is that JIP will simply sell pieces of the Olympus technology to other companies. The question now is who is next? Pentax seems the biggest candidate but in the medium term maybe not Nikon or other companies will survive this dying market.
To satisfy the ego of all people on youtube telling their stories camera manufacturers will keep launching cameras branded for “vloggers”. Next in line is the Panasonic G100 that will be announced on June 24!
Nokishita writes:
The North American price of the Panasonic “LUMIX DC-G100 12-32mm kit” announced next week seems to be $747.99. The resolution of the sample image (aspect ratio 3:2, original size) is [5184 x 3456]. #rumor
