The NX300…is it enough? Preorders at BHphoto.
The NX300 preorders are now up at Bhphoto (Click here). This is the cameras that sets a new “restart” for Samsung. And the main new feature is the 2D-3D hybrid capability. Is that really going to work out? Samsung should focus on developing some real major unique photographic features. Some examples: 3 layer sensor (Sigma), Hybrid viewfinder tech (Fuji), high quality prime glass (Leica). If they would put all that together in one camera! That is the kind of thing they needs. Something really groundbreaking!

6 months ago |There were some typos in your text; it should have read “3 layer sensor (inferior high ISO), hybrid viewfinder (eye-fatiguing)…” I don’t really think Samsung needs “unique photographic features” such as those. And if other manufacturers are using them, they don’t really count as unique, do they?
Also, doesn’t Samsung already have the rights to use the Schneider name? So if people insist on associating Germanic names with lens quality, they are in good shape there…

6 months ago |Stealing? Who invent the CSC-market? Sony? Fuji? Olympus? Pana?
no it was Samsung… So all company “stealing” the idea from them…
But it’s normal competition that you have a look at other brands and products, I don’t would say “steel”.

6 months ago |When did Samsung invent the CSC market?
The first CSC was the Panasonic G1, followed by the Olympus E-P1.
The NX300 looks nice, I just don’t get the point of getting rid of the accessory port for usage of the EVF… makes zero sense to me.
Anyway, this thing is so much more powerfull than the EOS-M, unfortunately, the latter will sell better due to the name “Canon”, for sure…

For everyone else, quoted from DPReview article ‘Mirrorless Cameras: A Primer’;
“Mirrorless cameras (also known as Compact System Cameras, amongst other names) first appeared with the launch of the Micro Four Thirds system from Panasonic and Olympus in 2008″ – Published Dec 15, 2011
Samsungs first MILC was the NX10, announced on January 4, 2010.
Now given my understanding of time, 2008 pre-dates 2010, ergo, Samsung did not invent in the CSC and Phil is a crackhead.

When m43 came out they asked everybody like Canon and nikon to join in their pathetic shit system and they were turned down like a zit faced dork at highschool prom. M43, so good no one wants to use that SHIT. LOL

Just a small hint !?
@all:
)… bye bye all others
In my oppionion the NX300 is a very good camera and a big step into a very good future. The NX-System itself (lenses, UI, prices etc.) is quite good and if the bodys become just little better (for marketing and pixelpeepers at ISO 3200 or higher

6 months ago |Why should they focus on exotic stuff like 3-layer-sensors, while we already have excellent conventional sensors, or complicated and expensive niche features like hybrid viewfinders, while what would really be needed is just an improved EVF?
But to answer the question, no, the NX300 is not enough. No finder, no in-body stabilizer, not enough serious lenses. This camera wouldn’t make me invest in the NX system even if it would be just half as expensive. I don’t care at all for 3D, though.
On the other hand, some of these days I even may try a cheap second-hand NX just to see how it makes use of my old Minolta legacy glass compared to the NEX-C3. At least the Android decision for future cameras is much better than what Sony does.

6 months ago |Deserved or not, Samsung has not yet enough brand prestige. Neither did they in the past for TV’s, but they had a great strategy: they partnered with Sony, by that time the king, and after a while most people realized that the panels were the same, and that the electronics that managed the image were not that different. They should have done the same by joining some other prestige companies, like m4/3, Fuji, or whatever company was open, in order to build the brand. They thought they could do it alone, but they still have some kind of stigma.
Anonymous
6 months ago |theres no stigma dude, the only stigma is the one in your head. The way you sound, you make it seems as if Samsunng is going broke. Its quite the opposite bro, its Sony you should be worrying about, as theyve been bleeding money for a while nwo. m43 has no prestige, that why you dont see anyone sept noobs with them and their kit lenses. Alot fo ppl buy Samsung tvs and phone sna dwhat not, theres no stigma. You see anyone buying olympus and panosonic phones? You se any pros use olympus? LOL. Fuji si known for film, but their small camera legacy is shit. Ask ppl on the street what is fuji, and they will say film. brand is for Canon and nikon. Samsung is in it to make loads of money, not cater to m43 fabnboys and Sony fanboys. Samsung is not Sony, theyre not in it to lose money year after year.

6 months ago |Wow you rabid Samsung fans are a pretty pathetic little bunch aren’t you? If you think Sony copied Samsung’s NX cameras you would have to be a complete idiot, which you clearly are. The NX series has been a complete and utter flop, period, absolutely zero doubt about it – and Samsung admit it. The Nikon 1 and Pentax Q outsell the NX every single day of the week.
The NX series have some nice points, but overall as a camera that have been junk made by a company that focuses on not terribly good smartphones. Samsungs No1 policy is specs specs specs, without any thought to how someone might actually use their products. This is rather important in a camera and why NOBODY (but you) buys a Samsung NX camera. You can bleat all day about how much you wuvvy dove dove them and you want to have their Galaxy S 12S’s babies. Go make love to your little NX camera an be done with it.

Name ONE professional that regularly uses Samsung NX? Turd.
None of the mirrorless cameras are professional cameras really, especially not Samsung! This is so fucking laughable it isn’t funny. Yeah Samsung might have billions to waste on developing cameras nobody buys, but their camera division certainly isn’t making any money on these crappy white goods cameras. Samsung NX does not have 1 good thing going for it – and will in all likelyhood become a completely unsupported mount within a couple if years – because that is exactly how Samsung roll. They might be cheap (although not as cheap as they should be) but try selling one, you can barely gie them away because NOBODY but little fanboy turds wants them, the same turds that think they should be able to get a 16-400mm f0.95 lens for $8.79.
Go stick your fucking Samsung love fest up your ass, piece of shit that ALL of their products are

6 months ago |Wow! Lots of heat here!
I would look so much better if you based your bashing in experience with the particular camera(s).
I have owned Oly E-PL2, Pana G3, NX200, NEX5 and currently I have a NEX-F3. Brand loyalty is good but it doesn’t
mean that other brands are sh*t.
I learned to like all my cameras. They all had something great in them. My µ4/3 cams were nice and snappy
but only for good lighting conditions. NX200 (RAW only) was fantastic. I never got such incredible details with any
other camera before (I also had a Nikon D90 earlier). I lost my NX200 to a German company that doesn’t want to
release it back to me claiming it’s their property! Nex5 I liked except for the weird menu system.
NX200 and E-PL2 had the best UI and NX 30mm f/2 lens was the sharpest I have ever had. Pana G3 was very fast
with an incredible sharp (for a zoom lens) 14-45mm lens.
My current NEX-F3 is the best I have owned when it comes to low light IQ. The Sigma 30mm f/2.8 lens is very sharp,
a bit slow AF and it’s a stop slower than the NX 30mm. NX300 has a great look. If Samsung has finally solved their
infamous buffer clearance problem, they have a future customer here!
Guys, no need to be so hardcore fanboys. Go and try other brands. You’ll also find something nice about them.
@admin: Good journalism! Thanks for all the interesting articles. Have a great year 2013!
Cheers!

I don’t know about the NEX-5 but the NEX-5n has customizable keys that you can set for most functions without digging into the menu system. I found out about the depth of customizable keys from someone on Youtube.

6 months ago |I don’t get that phrase: “This is the cameras that sets a new “restart” for Samsung. ”
How? It looks like just a minor update of NX210, even smaller than NEX-5R was an update for 5N (NX210 already had Wifi, and NX300 still does not have apps).
Tele 3d lens with super-narrow 3d base? Just a gimmick, it simply cannot work well like this. Scam. You need either wider lens, or much wider base.
Homer
6 months ago |You make it sound liek Sasmung is the only maker to make 3d. you rememebr panosonic? or sony? they been doing that gimmick for years. So whats the problem dude? at least samsung is nice enough to give you a damn apsc sensor and not that m43 shit. get on your knees and be grateful…cause olympus and panno aint doing dick all in the market either.

The OMD EM5 (epl-5 & epm2)m4/3 sensor match NEX APS-C sensor in dynamic range and high ISO.

6 months ago |All Samsung really need is an extreme improvement in dynamic range. They are on the Canon level today, which means that they are about 5-8 years behind Sony´s amazing sensors. They really need to step it up. They are the only one with the lenses I want, but I´ll rather take the a NEX with the 16mm and get amazing image-quality (dr, colours asf) then a Samsung NX with its crappy sensor and the samsung 85mm/1.4.
Anonymous
6 months ago |i can tell you som esonyfanboy by your lies. fisrt of all, sony sensors arent as great as you think they are. the sensors sony uses on ther dslrs that they also sell to companies like nikon end up being better on a nikon than a sony. second, the nx cameras are not as bad as you claim, and you can find this info from ppl who have owned both the cams. third, the 166 pancake Sony has is SHIT. Id like to use a btter word but i cant, it is SHIT. the 16 samsung is at least 2 levels better. The sony, sorry, it is SHIT. Sony cant decide what to make anymore…first its dslrs, than it slt, then it nex, then it rx1, then it will be FF nex, LOL. And im sure you also know this, sonys been bleeing money for years now, no surprise as A mount users abandon the sony ship. Amazing image quality”? No, the 16mm is SHIT, all the nex lenses are SHIT, aside from the zeiss, which is not a sony, and the camera bodies, well, how long did it take sony to copy samsung and put in a mode dial on their camera? i thought no mode dial was sonys formula…wrong! LOL

6 months ago |Sony is just a maker of gimmicks and ps caeras. Tehy never had any heritage in making fine cameras. From the walkman to the psp and tv, and videos cameras but cameras? No. They had a camera system when they bought Minolta, which was basically dead seeing as how they were sold off. There wasnt much A mounst or maxxum mount users left, and less so today, thats for sure.

Fuji is braving its way because they are implementing some neat new technology in their cameras and unless the other camera makers can catch up soon the only way to compete will be with Android and connectivity (Wifi, 3/4G)
