10 months ago |i think canon’s entry to mirrorless can only be a good thing for m43. like others have mentioned mirrorless isn’t on the radar yet for big dept stores like walmart, best buy, etc in the US. but now that canon is involved, it will be. that means eventually mft cams will start showing up in the big stores and in the casual shoppers mindshare.

10 months ago |Canon would of needed to launch with 4 plus models to compete against Micro Four Thirds who have about 10+ models available in most online stores and 6+ models in most bricks and mortar.
The design (not quite different/attractive enough in the eyes of potential p&s upgraders) and the larger lenses will not effectively target the growing female photographer market (after all it is most females who purchase compacts).
It looks like the additional flash is not bundled nor is the screen tilt and/or swivel, also lack of external controls and accessories!
Consumers who have had their fingers burnt with the Nikon 1 system will not be attracted to the new Canon mirrorless either…
I also imagine that the new Canon mirrorless will not be attractively priced…
I can only see this camera “selling in” relatively well to the Canon faithful in anglo saxon type markets ie mostly in the USA, with moderate success in the UK and maybe Australia, Switzerland etc
I see this launch as actually doing a favour to Oly and Panny…

10 months ago |Hmmm… I don’t see how this is better than a NEX-5N which has a superior sensor, higher FPS, tilt screen and the ability to use the best EVF in the business?
Two lenses (of which we know nothing of their performance) does not make a system. How this adapts EF / EF-S lenses in the interim will be interesting with the hybrid AF, but an adapter is going to add significant depth plus size of the lenses themselves.
Really need to see a road map for their EF-M lenses.
Good to see Canon joining the party although its unappealing to me, they will get into their stride soon. Wish they would spend some more money on their sensor development though, Sony and Nikon have a clear advantage there and have had for some time.

10 months ago |Micro four thirds did not spring from the womb with 10 bodies and 25 lenses. It started with the G1 and a few lenses. Given time the Canon system could fill out enough to surpass m43. Canon has enough resources to keep developing it even if m43 outsells it right now.
I know a lot of people (of both sexes) that do not understand or care about the technical aspects of photography. They just want better pictures than they can get from their cell phones. Right now they tend to buy an SLR with a couple of lenses or one superzoom type lens, set the mode dial to the green full auto position and take pictures. And they do get much better pictures than they would from a cell phone. I had a woman email me some pictures she took of her dog playing in the snow last winter. She does not know or care that it was the PDAF system that allowed the camera to focus quickly enough, the large sensor that produced the low noise and rich color depth or that the camera chose a high shutter speed and wide aperture to freeze the action and blur the background. She just knows she has some really good pictures of her dog her cell phone could never had taken. I know a lot of guys at work with expensive SLRs that never leave full auto mode too. These people outnumber us enthusiasts by huge margin and do not care about a bunch of extra controls or accessories they will never use.
If the Canon can focus quickly, has the same image quality as their APS-C SLRs and has a good full auto mode it will probably sell very well, just not to us. Given time Canon will probably introduce high end bodies and lenses for enthusiasts but the current model will be everything a lot of people need or want. People in camera forums tend to forget we are a small minority and the world does not revolve around us.

10 months ago |There’s a video on canonrumors showing a mic jack. That’s a huge plus for me. Only other thing I want is HD crop mode like the t3i.

I think that it has no viewfinder.

10 months ago |I guess its about brand preference now. Canon, Sony, Nikon, Samsung, m43, Fuji and Pentax with the tiny sensor.
I’m using an E-P3 with the pancake 20mm pancake lens, I get very good low light capability plus in body stabilization. IMO, best compromise of portability, low light, decent quality.
Flash Gordon?
10 months ago |At least it has a superior pop up flash unlike all the canon pro full frames!
