Canon EOS-M…restart?

Canon didn’t capture our hearts withe their Canon EOS-M mirrorless camera. And the rumored Canon EOS-M with built.in viewfinder was juts…a rumor :) But Canonrumors reports new rumors (true???) that “Canon plans to “relaunch” the system in the coming months with 2 new cameras“.

The first camera will replace the actual EOS-M model and the second camera will be a completely new high end model. The autofocus will be dramatically improved and at least three lenses will be announced within the year.

Let’s see if Canon will really become “serious” with their next Mirrorless models! Canon can’t afford to miss the train now!

Olympus E-P5 gets leaked!

Your really can0t have one day without rumors in these period! Yesterday we had the G6 announcement and today we have the next new MFT camera leak. The Olympus E-P5 image discloses a new more classic look and it comes with the 17mm f/1.8 as kit lens. The camera is going to be announced on May 9. This may be the last MFT camera before the summer Pause. We already heard the new OMD and Panasonic cameras will be announce din August/September…

P:S.: Sony is a a lot slower compare to the Panasonic/Olympus duo. It is very likely that the NEX-7 successor may be the only new NEX camera to come for the next 8-10 months.

Ricoh GXR marked as “discontinued”.

A couple of days ago a store manager told me how the Ricoh GXR was a nice concept but at the same time “selling poorly”. And today a huge store like BHphoto marked the GX3 as discontinued (Click here to see it). Let’s hope this may be a sign that a new successor is on the horizon. The worse case scenario would be that Ricoh…no wait I won’t even write that. Go Ricoh, show us the new model!

Panasonic G6, LF1 and new 14-140mm lens announced!

The new Panasonic G6 MFT camera has been announced along a newly updated 14-140mm lens and the LF1 compact camera with fixed 28-200mm lens. The G6 features the same Gh2 sensor but without multiapsect function. This is bad news! I would have loved to got this feature too. Why remove it? Anyway, the new 14-140mm lens looks great. it’s smaller, lighter, faster and cheaper than it’s predecessor.

The G6 gains considerably improved movie capabilities, including full exposure control, an external mic socket and the sensor from the GH2. It also adds the NFC-aided Wi-Fi for simple remote control and image download that we first saw in the GF6. it has the same GH2 sensor, albeit without that model’s multi-aspect feature. 14-140mm lens is smaller, lighter, less-expensive alternative to the original G Vario HD 14-140mm F4.0-5.8 ASPH Mega OIS. The latest version features three aspheric and two ED elements and an internal focus design with linear stepper motors to make the most of the faster focus processing of the latest Micro Four Thirds bodies (Source: Dpreview).
The LF1 marries the sensor from the LX7 to a longer, slower lens (but longer zoom range) and adds an electronic viewfinder (Source: Dpreview).

Ricoh GR news roundup (And Ken Rockwell doesn’t like the GR).

It’s time to catch up with some interesting Ricoh GR news (preorders at Bhphoto (Click here) and Adorama (Click here). Let’s start with one hell of negative comment written by Guru Ken Rockwell: “Personally, I don’t see any reason for this camera, but that’s just me. Hobbyists love to throw all sorts of money at gadgets like this, so don’t let me stop you.“. He really likes to be direct ;)

Anyway, I don’t agree with Ken. The camera is the cheapest and smallest APS-C fixed lens compact. And that alone makes it worth to be considered. And what about the image quality? Just see these links:
Threeguyswithcameras (Cool name for a website!) posted a nice Ricoh GR review: “I think photographers all over realised too – the level of interest, intrigue for this camera, and even ignorant criticism far surpasses that of the Nikon Coolpix A (which is no slouch itself, to be honest).“

Kodak shows a new mirrorless camera. The PixPro!

Kodak displayed a new Mirrorless camera at the P&E show in China. This appears to be a fixed lens model with 28-112mm f/1.7-2.4 lens. I doubt this has a Four Thirds sensor (and FT mount) like their previously announced “Kodak S1″. The “Kodak S1” will be released in Q3 of this year and will feature a Sony CMOS MFT sensor and built-in WiFi.

There is no other info yet about the specs and release of the PixPro model. The only link between that camera and the Kodak S1 is that both have been announced quietly in China only. So it’s clear that this is also a JK Imaging realized camera with a Kodak logo on it. JK Imaging acquired the brand rights from Kodak.
