The digital camera market is shrinking dramatically but Sony seems to have found the way out of the crisis. Their focus is on premium mirrorless system cameras and premium fixed lens cameras.
On a press conference in New York Imaging Resource shared this picture of a Sony slide showing how Sony’s digital camera sales are growing!
Of course Sony doesn’t show their “cheap” entry level compact fixed lens cameras sales. They are basically down to zero :)
Leica you had your short moment of glory. Sony just announced three amazing new cameras that are so much fully packed with features that you may choose to read a Tolstoy book over the Sony press release tonight…it would be quicker to read :)

UPDATE: Announcement is scheduled for 14:00 London time
Until now there was no “standard” to define mirrorless system cameras. We had plenty of different definitions like:
– Digital Interchangeable Lens System Cameras (DILSC),
– Electronic Viewfinder with Interchangeable Lens (EVIL).
– Mirrorless System Cameras (MSC),
– Compact System Cameras (CSC),
– Digital Single Lens Mirrorless (DSLM).
But at last the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) decision recognized “Mirrorless” as the official term for interchangeable lens cameras that do not include a mirror mechanism!
Amazing it took seven years to sort this out :)
