Zeiss getting serious about mirrorless and announces high quality prime lenses for 2013!

Zeiss (Click here) just issued an intriguing press release: “Another highlight will be the presentation of a design study, with which Carl Zeiss will offer a sneak preview of a new family of autofocus lenses for mirrorless system cameras (CSC) that will most likely be available in mid-2013. Due to their performance and high speed, these new lenses will be ideal for deliberate photo composition, making them perfect for more sophisticated photographers as well. Carl Zeiss plans to initially offer fixed focal lengths in the wide angle and standard range as well as a macro.”
There is no info about what kind of system will be supported by the new lenses. But it’s only 12 days to go until Photokina starts! Than we will finally see what Zeiss plans to do for real…

9 months ago |Zeiss can be serious about mirrorless but they need to be serious with pricing. With one Zeiss lens I can buy a Toyota Camry and still have money left to buy a Canon. 99.9999% of people cannot tell a difference side by side of the same image shot with 2 different lenses on a 50inch TV. For people that can afford Zeiss, good for them, for many of us, a bad dream.

9 months ago |My bet is that the lenses will cover an APS frame, available in Sony Nex and Canon mount. They will also be available in m43 mount, but will be the same lens hence no size reduction. Think of the Zeiss 24/1.8 for Nex now…
That’s the way specialised equipment goes.
My mountain bike cost more than most cars…

If you can’t justify spending the extra money, then it simply isn’t for you. If you’ve ever used Zeiss lenses next to, say, Canon L, Nikon, or nearly any other third party lens designer, then you already know how much better the Zeiss glass is. The difference IS worth the extra coin if you’re a professional who needs to get the absolute most out of your gear.

3 months ago |Zeiss – a new family of mirrorless system cameras
This is quoted from the exhibitors list, for the NEC march camera fair Birmingham UK.
Can we expect a new FF sensor body from Zeiss for / with ZM or LM lenses?
– Leica M is in need of some good competition. Perhaps an Leica -R solution with adapter,
Or even other adapters for minolta/alpha, etc. I await some good news.
