The new LA-EA2 adapter from Sony merges the two world (DSRL and Mirrorless)

Sony probably made the very first big step that will bring the DSLR world closer to the new Mirrorless system. The image here on top shows the upcoming new LA-EA2 adapter with built-in translucent mirror. This will allow you to use all A-mount lenses with fast phase detection autofocus on your NEX camera. Usually autotofucus speed was considered one of the main advantages of the DSRL system over the Mirrorless system. But the recent improvement made by Panasonic (with the GH2) and Olympus (E-P3) and the new Sony adapter are closing the gap.

10 months ago |Very interesting… if it fits the new NEX-7 in a stylish way that would definitely switch me over to NEX from NX. then again we’ll have to see how the NX20/200 looks when they are announced

10 months ago |Nice idea – but it will add additional bulk to the camera, plus having huge a-mount lenses.
If Sony would concentrate on producing decent lenses for the NEX system, any new lens at all, there would be no need for adapters!

10 months ago |Agreed. I have zero idea why they haven’t put out a decent 24mm lens (35mm eq.) to counter the Pana 20mm, the Oly 17mm, the Samsung 20mm, and the X100. Maybe they have tried and haven’t been able to get the quality to stack up?

Native autofocus NEX lenses :
Available :
16mm pancake — Sharp and misreputed
18-55mm lens —- Decent Kit lens
18-200 OOS — Simply the best all purpose superzoom for APSC.
30mm macro — Available on preorder
TBA Aug 24 :
50mm 1.8 – $350
Zeiss 24mm 1.8 – $999
55-210 3.5-6.1 —- $ 300 ish
That makes 7 lense in about a year+ 2mths of release. not bad … so stop whining.
Most NEX users are pretty happy using Voigtlanders and M mount lenses to bridge the gap. They have higher optical quality than any Panaoly lens available now.

10 months ago |The Sony Alpha lenses that will use it would be large too. Besides, from the shilouette it seems that the adapter will attach to tripod head too.

18-55 decent kit lens but what kit lens isnt decent these days?
18-200 lens- a large italian sausage that costs a grand.
30mm macro- keep waiting
tba-
50mm 1.8- most noobs wont buy it
Zeiss 24mm 1.8- most people cant afford it
55-210-its taken this long for a basic consumer telephoto? way too little, way too late.

Tech development truly goes in cycles.

10 months ago |If this adaptor will be avaliable soon , then the problem of not enough of some lens will be resolved in a alternative way. want to take some fast sport, you may adopt a 328 on it (or a 70-400G also ok…), if want to take some wide shot and don’t want to use the lens converter ,you may use t he 1118-AE……but ofcause it will be better to introduce a ultrawide lens for E-mount is better.
This adaptor is good and able a NEX to match with the DSLR , but what i concern is …. the power consumption will it be greater or lesser? NEX system already well know that eat the power very greatly… if it made the NEX consume more power…. then it will be very bad….

10 months ago |I think the build quality will have to be exceptional for it to work well or else it will be thought a a cheap gimick or kludge. Then there could be a problem of price, as there is a limited market for it it might be close to a A series Camera. Cameras are cheaper then high end lens.
But is is real nice that Sony is doing it for their A mount customers. If build quality is high it should be a nice addition for a lot of the A mount customers.

.
Too bad the alpha lenses arent that great.

9 months ago |Wait, so you buy a mirrorless camera system because it’s more compact than a DSLR, right?
Only, the lenses are big and poor quality.
So, you buy a mirror adapter, which makes the camera body bulkier, so you can mount even bigger DSLR lenses on the tiny body.
WTF? Does any of this make sense to anyone? Why not just buy an A55 or A77 in the first place?

5 months ago |No, it makes absolutely no sense. If phase detect is really that important (it might be for some sports photographers, hardly anyone else) you buy a DSLR. For everyone else mirrorless is the way to go and to put the mirror back in the way of your precious photons is total nonsense.
