The Fuji X lens roadmap! (Amazon lists the Fuji stuff but with no price)
Fuji announced the lens roadmap for 2012 and 2013. There are at least seven lenses coming and all zoom lenses will feature a built-in Image Stabilization system.
This are the lenses coming in 2012:
-14mm f/2.8
- 18-72mm f/4.0 with IS (Image stabilization).
This are the lenses coming in 2013
- 28mm f/2.8 pancake
- 23mm f/2.0
- 72-200mm f/4.0 IS
- 12-24mm f/4.0 IS
I think it’s a pretty interesting roadmap. But what’s missing are real fast lenses. Something like a fast portrait lens (50 or 60mm f/1.4). Meanwhile Amazon has the new Fuji X PRO camera and lenses on list but doesn’t mention the price like it happened when they leaked the stuff a couple of days ago:
Fuji X PRO 1 at Amazon (notification only).
Fuji 18mm lens at Amazon (notification only).
Fuji 35mm lens at Amazon (notification only).
Fuji 60mm lens at Amazon (notification only).

5 months ago |The Price for the body is more than double of a Pana GH2.
For me, this is no relation. I wait one month for the new Oly or GH3 and save a lot of money;-)

5 months ago |Hello, yes, faster lenses would be great. Any idea whether legacy lenses are useable on this system via an adaptor ? Or do we have to stick to Fuji’s offerings ?
Thanks.

5 months ago |Fuji said they’re going to release a Leica M lens adapter soon so there should be other kind of adapters too, Fuji or third-party too.

5 months ago |Finally someone else with a constant f4 zoom. This is a great idea to keep the size down.
Considering the sensor advancements f4 is not so bad ( I use my 24-105 and 17-40 with 7D ) and the size is kept low. Olympus and Sony should have done that for their kit lenses.
Imagine a line of 2X f4 lenses 28-56, 55-105, 100-200 at f4 they would be small enough for all mirrorless systems.
Even better a Tri-Elmar type…now I am dreaming

5 months ago |12-24mm, 18-72mm, 72-200mm all f/4.0 doesn’t look bad.
If those are good it will be serious competition for APS-C DSLEs at anything under 200mm – and all those Fujinon primes as well

5 months ago |Have you learned Russian lately?
P.S the 60\2.4 is good enough for portrait IMHO
voldenuit
5 months ago |Wholeheartedly agree with Frosti.
I use a SMC-Takumar 50/1.4 on my GF1 and stop down to f/2 for portrait shots. I also have a PL 45/2.8 macro which is adequate for portrait shots when I’m too lazy/tired to manual focus.
Played with a CV 50/1.1 and was struggling with critical focus at f/1.4. Focal plane was too shallow at f/1.1 and (a complaint I’ve also had with other CV lenses) bokeh became too polygonal when I stopped down past f/2.
60/2.4 on APS-C would be great for portraiture.

5 months ago |Well…I don’t see any reason, as a Leica user, to switch from my Leica system to this one. This lens roadmap offers me nothing more than I already have…and I doubt it could offer me more than Leica quality. Moreover…After years using an OVF coupled with all my lenses…I can hardly justify to buy this new Fuji to use them with an EVF…
So, maybe as a back up for me, or just low light camera for extreme situations like parties etc…but I think the X100 is more proper due to its much smaller size! This new Fuji is as big as my M9…it is not really discreet and comfortable to carry around parties…lol
I can understand the appeal for people who do not own a Leica system though. I will keep a look at what Fuji does for what is a real reborn of this company for me!
lorenzino
5 months ago |Yes, I think this camera has more appeal to those who do not have a digital Leica.
As far as I am concerned, it is too expensive (and a bit too big). But I am still waiting for the actual IQ before discarding it from my wish-list…
Nico
5 months ago |So get a Sony Nex and M-mount adapter, cheap + small + very good image quality and iso performance…
voldenuit
5 months ago |The X-Pro1 should happily accept your existing M lenses. It would be a great alternative camera for low light situations, when the CCD sensor on the M9 falls down.
You can also manually enter the focal length of adapted lenses into the X-Pro1. If Fuji implements the OVF properly, it should show the proper framing lines in OVF. You won’t be able to focus via OVF, but zone focusing and framing should work.
Sahaja
5 months ago |If you have a Leica M there is probably no reason to switch unless you actually want autofocus or maybe higher iso. But if you don’t already have a Leica this looks like a really attractive alternative at a more affordable price.
Sahaja
5 months ago |Will be useful for longer focal length lenses too.

5 months ago |Compared to an M9 you can pretty much guarantee it will perform better at high iso and offers autofocus for those who want it. An macro and telephoto if that’s your thing.
If it works well with m mount lenses it could be a nice camera for both Af and m work.
Plus it’s obviously cheaper.

I am still hoping for a few things. A fair price in EU meaning cca. 1300EU with VAT
2nd thing a fast/sharp portrait lens like new nikon 85 1.8G

5 months ago |The 35mm f/1.4 is a 53 mm equivalent
Iiee
5 months ago |Agree that a short fast tele would be a good edition to this list maybe instead of the 12-24mm zoom which with the 14, 18 and 23mm primes seems a little redundant but the other lens are great. The zooms are a little slow at the wide end but i guess that is to keep them compact and having f4 at the tele should be great. I am most Intrigued by the 28mm f2.8 pancake which at 42mm equivalence and compact dimensions should make a good travel lens if the quality is there. All in all this is a great roadmap with only one obvious omission in a lens category. In short sony if you want to the nex 7 to compete in the semi to pro market then you need to get your house in order and release an equivalent Lens roadmap because fuji looks like its here to stay.
Joachim2
5 months ago |Yes, the 2,8/42 mm(eq) pancake would be good travel lens.

5 months ago |+1 into endless.
I hope Sony will at least release the roadmap in the next couple of days, so we know if we order the Fuji or the Nex-7
I hope the Zoom lenses are not to big, to bad there is are no picture of the 18-72mm and 72-200mm, to see them compared to the 60mm

5 months ago |I am realy surprised of what fuji presented yesterday!
The camera is pretty fine and I am sure the image quality will be, too.
But who are they aiming for? As in the interview 50% pros and 50% enthusiast.
For pros, there is the ff missing as well as some special lenses (e.g.fast portrait lens)
For enthuasiast is the price looking at the competitors to high!
I am not a marketing pro but I would sell the body for less to get more customers into my system.
And I guess most of the Leica users are not realy interested, so the announcement of a m-Mount adaptor is just to catch the ones who realy would love to have a M8/M9 but can not afford it.
I wont pay for stylish products when there is a competitor on the market giving me same quality for less price.

5 months ago |Good to see the roadmap – essential to know before you invest in a new system. Provided the IQ lives up to the promise to equal that of Canon 5DMkII, this is the camera for me. The IQ of the Canon is what I need, but not willing to carry around the bulk of that system. The Fuji weights less than half.
12-24 for wide angle, primes for normal and short tele and 72-200 for tele – all you ever need (or at least what I need).
Pascal645
5 months ago |Ok! Hadn’t been looking closely but that’s good news. Thanks!
Sahaja
5 months ago |Yes it is very smart to release a lens roadmap like this – then customers have a pretty good idea of where the system is going, and a lot more confidence, before they buy into it.
Arturo
5 months ago |Andrea is there any way you can find out if Fuji is planning a firmware upgrade for the X100? When sony releases new cameras such as 5N, C3, A35 etc, they will update firmware for previous cameras.
I own an X100 and I don’t see why they cannot give us a firwamre that changes the RAW button to the Q menu function like the X-Pro1. Also adding the 2 new film simulations and puttnig auto iso on/off within iso selection. Otherwise it makes X100 really look flawed and I don’t see new customers being happy to buy the new black edition.
maxbas
5 months ago |This is 100% what I was asking myself. I’m in the market for a x100 for now since the focal length is critical to me. I think the Q menu would be a big step up in usability and since the main selling points of the new cam over the x100 are exchangeable lenses and the new sensor it would be just fair to improve the x100′s UI.
fujifan
5 months ago |Samsung, Nikon, Canon please produce us one camera like this but at a more competitive price. It should not be a problem for you guys since you already have the fast lens system. What are u guys waiting for? We will support u. So there will be no monopoly. Now it looks like only Fuji saw the niche market. And now they are cashing on the cow. Just an improvement on x100, make it interchangeable and they can charge so high. Now, with only one manufacturer, they can priced it sky high….

5 months ago |Looking at the lens roadmap, I have to say, now the system starts to look less interesting and more expensive.
But it is too soon for any judgment – because interesting to me lenses are coming only in 2013 anyway.

5 months ago |I hope that Fuji will also come with an X type MF camera with a large sensor at least 36×48 mm. with 2 or 3 prime lenses.
Of course the price will be around 7000 euro 10000 US dolars.
But for travel, architectur and high quality photography without the enormous weight of a Hasselblad/Fuji DSLR it will be very nice.
Fuji is making now for years the Hasselblad D-series so an X-type MF digital camera must be possible
Eric
5 months ago |Pretty nice lineup, I just wish the14mm f/2.8 was an 11mm f/2.8 I don’t need an ultrawide zoom, just wine really wide prime is fine.
Yusuf
5 months ago |@Kylberg nearly 4 years old and the 5D Mark II still has better IQ then most cameras released! Smaller cameras are easier to carry, but the ergonomics of shooting with a DSLR for me just feels right!
The size and the weight helps with balance! The Fuji looks great and is very interesting.
For those wanting a Canon mirrorless, just look at the GX1 (what is it with camera manufactures and X and G, Lumix, Canon, Nikon D3X, X100 etc) as im pretty sure that sensor will be used for mirrorless. As developing that sensor for one model just seems odd!
Ranger 9
5 months ago |I agree with Admin for once: the road on this roadmap is a slow one. A camera system this expensive, and with this many compromises, needs at least one f/2.8 zoom and a fast medium tele to be genuinely useful to a broad range of photographers. (f/2.4 is too slow for documentary, reportage, low-light wedding candids, performing arts, etc.)
Without that optical backup, it’s just expensive “camera jewelry” for the conspicuous-consumption set.
Meanwhile, I wonder how they’re going to rationalize some of these lenses with the camera’s only unique feature, its hybrid optical viewfinder. A 200mm focal length seen through the finder’s 0.6x magnification is going to need such a tiny frameline that composition will be almost impossible. And will the wides work with the finder’s 0.37x magnification option, or will they need accessory finders stuck on the top?
Most users of those lenses will be forced either use the LCD, or switch the eye-level finder to EVF mode and leave it there. But if this is just an LCD-or-EVF camera, then what’s the point of the optical finder in the first place?
Thomas
5 months ago |I dont get your problem. Switch to EVF when you use the zooms, and switch to OVF when using it with the primes and for street. Or use the LCD/EVF for that. Its YOUR choice! And better having a choice then beeing forced to one.
People are complaining about EVF, they are complaining about OVF, and now they are even complaining when you can chose BOTH! jesus…
Sahaja
5 months ago |Some people haven’t yet figured out how the OVF + EVF works.
Sahaja
5 months ago |If they get all these lenses out by the end of next year, they will be doing *far* better than Sony has since the launch of the first NEX.
A fast 85mm or 90mm (135mm equiv) as well would be nice though.
