Sony and Nikon: Both will announce new mirrorless cameras/lenses on April 4th?
That’s probably a coincidence only but according to sources from Nikonrumors and SonyAlphaRumors both companies will announce their new mirrorless cameras on April 4th. Channelnews reported that “Nikon is set to re-launch their brand in Australia, with a major multimillion dollar marketing campaign, featuring Robbie Williams. The Japanese Company is also introducing several new digital cameras’ ranging in price from $99 to $2,000.” The first ad will air in the UK on April 11th, 2011.
According to our sources the system should be named “Nikon Coolpix PRO“.
Sony will announce the new NEX-C3 mirrorless camera. It should be a minor update of the current NEX-3 with small design changes and same NEX-5 sensor. There is also a good chance that Sigma and Zeiss will announce the new NEX lenses. The Zeiss E-mount lens should be a 24mm f/1.7 lens.
What about the other companies?
Panasonic should have a press release on late April and Pentax will announce their NC mirrorless system in May. If all those rumors are correct by the end of May Canon will be the only company not having a mirrorless system. Let’s see when they are coming…

No, bigger sensors doesn’t necessarily mean bigger cameras.

Yes, Nikon will probably fck this one up.

3 years ago |dont understand your logic chief. bigger sensors don’t mean bigger lenses, in relative terms is a true statement. for example, the lens on nikon p500 is bigger than the 14mm on gf1. however in absolute terms if you want an equivalent lens it sure as hell is going to be bigger on a gf1 if you want 22mm-800mm. the 45-200 is already a huge honking thing that makes it difficult to even shoot with a steady hand.
i dunno about nikon fckin it up… but i hope for a larger crop than 2.5x. enthusiast cameras (lx5,s95,etc) are approx 4.7 crop. i want something around 3.2x crop. that would really be a unique middle of the ready offering and make me consider jumping from gf1. something in size (camera/lens) between enthusiast and m43 would be ideal for me.

Even..and i mean even if olympus and panasonic had a method of making a m43 sensor that would top a full frame sensors in image quality, then by the same method if they were to make a larger sensor with the same method it will be better in I.Q. It’s just simple math. A bigger sensor gives you a bigger surface to reproduce the image with. two sensors made the same way, the bigger sensor is always going to have higher potential based on the surface diameter of the sensor alone. the people who say that image sensor size doesn’t count should stick to using the ant sized sensors found in point n shoot cameras and forget about using anything else. M43, that was a marketing ploy that hopefully some people should stop pushing. Bottom line, it’s a smaller sensor then aps-c sensors, but at least nikon and canon never tried to market them by calling them m2/3 sensors. there is not even one great m4/3 sensor that would even come close to the best aps-c size sensor.but hey, if some people want to pay panny and oly a thousand dollars for a “micro4/3 camera” who am i to try and stop them. live and let learn, buy and get burned.
