Samsung will introduce on sensor image stabilization on future NX cameras?
A source just sent me a surprising rumor. Samsung won’t make OIS lenses anymore!
According to the source Samsung has a little concerns about optical problems and final lenses size. Samsung will get back to an improved AntiShake system sensor-based used on Pentax/Samsung DSLR. The patent of that system is a share property between them.
I certainly hope the rumor turns out to be true! All lenses (including third party lenses used via adapter) will be stabilized and the size of NX lenses can be a bit smaller. At the time of writing Olympus only offers mirrorless cameras with built-in sensor stabilization.

5 months ago |That would be awesome. 20-50mm with a stabilized body…killer combo.

5 months ago |agreed… the 20-50 was my first thought too…

5 months ago |that would be awesome and really make the system a winner.
the only thing that ruins it for me is that photozone did reviews for the lenses now and the results weren’t encouraging. the selection for samsung was very good, but if the quality doesn’t deliver then it’s as if the lenses don’t exist (in my eyes)

5 months ago |Well, the 60mm review was disappointing, and the 20mm was so-so, but the 30mm was excellent as expected. The 16mm was HORRIBLY disappointing, but there’s some (not enough to be concrete yet) evidence that shows that the field-curvature thing isn’t necessarily symptomatic of the lens itself, but rather Photozone was unlucky enough to get two bad copies.

5 months ago |yeah, the 16mm review is the most problematic for me, it was part of the 3/4 lens set i wanted for the system with the 30mm and the expected short tele pancake (though i also considered the 60mm macro which also disappoints in the review).
the 20mm doesn’t really give me anything i want.

5 months ago |Sensor based IS is not good for video.

5 months ago |And for telephoto lenses……. with sensor stablisation, there will not be stabilisator in lens anymore…. bye bye wildlife

5 months ago |Actually, it would be definitely useful to have a system with both: IBIS and OIS.

5 months ago |Previous sensor anti-shake technology, the effect is obviously worse than OIS,
Samsung’s OIS worse than the mainstream brands in Japan,
Its insistence on turning it into a sensor anti-shake technology,
With sensor image stabilization technology will shorten sensor life (due to the often high-frequency vibration),
Can not see the future.

Thats the first time I have heard that. Do you have a source?

5 months ago |Great. Wide angle lenses will be stabilised, but for telephoto lenses, where it is most needed, senzor stabilisation does almost does not work…..it is already problem with Tamron 70-300 for Sony – no stabilisation in the lens and sensor stabilisation cannot handle it on this focal range…. and price of the lens is the same as Nikon/Canon wth stabilisation. Lets see what will happen at 1/60 and 1/125 – at these speeds Pentax stabilisation sometimes blur the picture instead of stabilising it.

5 months ago |No IS < Body IS < Lens IS
Body IS will still be superior for the 85/1.4 and 55/1.8 because they don't have Lens IS anyway!
Fast primes + IS + pancakes = The holy grail.

5 months ago |I owned an Olympus E-30 with the ZD 70-300mm and had an outstanding keeper rate with this combination. But why does it have to be an either-or scenario?
On my Olympus E-30 (sensor-based stabilization) I also used my Pana/Leica 14-50mm had optical stabilization; I always chose the sensor based.
Why can’t we have both stabilization methods available on a single platform?
Zarkon
5 months ago |Actually, the Pentax Q is a mirrorless system with in-body sensor shift image stabilization. So Olympus isn’t the only one…

5 months ago |If this is not just a rumour and ACTUALLY happens…. oh my GOD.
16/2.7, 20/2.8, 30/2 and 55/1.8 pancake lenses WITH image stabilization???
I think I just wet my pants.

5 months ago |Great, so my newly bought NX11 will produce useless photos on long lenses that I need :-/ Hope they will make 400mm with OIS and then leave it :-/
