Samsung plans to launch a PRO mirrorless cameras…in several years! (where is the NX20?)

I was really wondering what happened with the Samsung NX20. The camera name has been leaked multiple times on Samsungs website but the REAL camera never appeared. Today Amateur Photographer had a chat with Sunhong Lim, Samsung’s newly recruited Digital Imaging sales and marketing vice president. Samsung unveiled that they will launch a PRO mirrorless camera that will rival against current DSRL cameras…in several years! No joke
Other interesting info:
1) Samsung will “democratise CSC by establishing a wider range of models for both consumers and enthusiasts and making them mroe affordable.
2) Amateur Photographer writes: “The move is an indication that sales of Samsung cameras have not met company expectations, in the face of stiff competition from other CSC manufacturers, such as Panasonic and Sony.”
3) Samsung says that by 2015 there will be more mirrorless than DSLR camera sales.
4) There will be a new NX camera body this year at Photokina (in Spetember) with new functions such as Wi-Fi.
5) Samsung switched the production to China to lower the costs.
6) There will be new NX lenses this year and they will be made in the new Chinese factory
My interpretation: Samsung didn’t sell as many NX cameras as expected and that’s why the NX20 announcement has been put on hold. I think they are working on a complete new product strategy. This means there will be no new NX camera for a long time now. Bad news because I really liked some of the prototypes they showed a coupel of months ago (See image on top).
P.S:: Thanks TED for sending this!

5 months ago |lol…the NX200 was even not reviewed by the biggest camera review website in the world: DPreview.
Sure they have a problem with “advertisement”.
I bought a NX10 when it was launched. What a great camera. The higher iso were poor…but the UI and handling just fantastic.
I sold it in eBay 3 months ago…and was curious about the new NX20 will make…well, big disappointment for me! But in an other hand…I feel like I made a good decision selling my NX system…I do not feel confident with Samsung NX line anymore.

5 months ago |Being the owner of 2 Samsung nx cameras, I have to say that they dropped the ball and totally misread the market.im not sure if i will continue on with NX myself. They had a good start, but what they don’t understand is why customers chose their csc cameras to begin with. their customers wanted something that can rival the other csc makers but with affordable prices. Then came the first real mistake when they made the nx200, they shrunk that camera down so small, the mount protruded out like a sore thumb. Not to mention that it did not have an evf…worse of all, there wasn’t even a port for one! At least give your customers a choice for a potential EVF someday..but no.That’s the same thing sony did when they introduced those A3230 330 cameras with those hideous grips. Sony lost a whole year and potential new customers with those useless grips.
So now that they have no compact csc with a EVF let alone an option for one, should their nx20 be like the nx10, this would not have made their nx100 customers happy. So now their nx customers sit fuming at the fact that the nx200 was a let down, and they either have to wait for a nx300[ if one ever does make it out] or wait for the mythical nx1. Samsung not only has angered nx100 customers away, they have lost at least a year of potential business.Bad move. I always thought that they need to be like Olympus and have 3 styles of cameras all with the same RF styled body. Nobody builds dslrs styled csc’s but Panny.
How hard can it be for a rich company like Samsung to make a good csc camera? Fast AF, Fast shutter lag, Good[ no need for perfect] sensor, and a nice looking Rf styled body[ just copy the Leica m9 styling if they have to] at an affordable price.Instead Samsung give us cameras with missing key features. a company like Samsung has so much tech up it’s sleeve and they cant even make a great EVF? Common Samsung, things like the nx10 evf and the horrible 200k dot nx100 EVf is just way way way below standard. If you build it, they will come as they say..so Samsung, when are you going to JUST BUILD IT?
Meanwhile the other csc makers just keep making good new products and moving ahead while Samsung customers sit and fume and abandon ship. Wake up Samsung or else theres nothing left of your csc division.

Some of those protypes look interesting, Samsung should try something very different.
