11 months ago |Good riddance ! I finally saw an NX100 in person a couple of weeks ago, and handled it. I must say it felt like a piece of junk, and its looks are even worse! Samsung can do so much better. The NX100 was by far the worst looking mirrorless camera I’ve seen.

11 months ago |I was so disappointed with the live view jello, my 1DIII & 40D have no jello and they are a few generations old now.
hopefully the NX200 is the Leica looking mirrorless(in that group of prototypes), with an improved sensor.
or they may as well pack up and stick to P&S’s because the NEX 7 will kill it.

Just be glad they gave you an aps-c sensor in the nx100. It has the same sensor as the pentax k-7, and that didnt stop ppl from buying that camera. Alot of cameras nowadays are made of plastic, the rebels are made of plastic, yet its the number 1 seller for Canon. The better camera would be the nx10 or 11, but for a first try in that style the nx100 is not as bad as ppl think. It does need a rubber grip. But if you think that the nx100 is ugly , wait till you see the Panasonic gf-3. LOL

11 months ago |it might be ugly bud it is very sturdy and the handling (lots of direct access button: exposure compensation, exposure lock, two wheels, wb, iso, af,.. good luck trying to find that on a nex which is much more expensive or even a pen or gf1..) is very well…
if only the plastic wouldnt be so slippery.. they should have put some leather in the front and it would have been perfect..
been using the nx100 for 6months or so now.

10 months ago |the points you made about the nx100 are true, true and true, Chris. IMO anyone who buys the Sony NEX is going to need a wetsuit to use it because they are going to do alot of MENU SURFING. push button,up up, up, left, yes, push button, left left left, yes. push button…mode changed. LOL

The only cameras I could find in that same price range were older model Panasonic mirrorless SLR clones. Why the bulk of an SLR body if there is no mirror. Have you ever seen the Nikon mirrorless cameras in that pricerange? Talk about junk. Terrible firmware, flimsy, illogical controls, crap screen, and crap viewfinder screen looks like a VHS camera viewfinder.
Samsung opted to do without a tiny 90% lcd viewfinder and use one of their large AMOLED displays without a viewfinder. It is the nicest display on any camera. Most cameras have great lenses, mirrors, sensors, etc, then use the same crap LCDs they have had on cameras forever. The only thing that has been done to improve camera screens on many cameras is to upgrade the size of the LCD rather than the quality of it. My camera screen is both large and rich.
And the NEX 5 which is the current comparable sony is junk. look at this video review of the two together: http://goo.gl/PpfTU
The NEX 5 is exactly as I described: Terrible firmware, flimsy, illogical controls, crap screen. Sony would have never come up with a great idea like i-function lenses, because they are not innovative anymore as a company. They only do game systems well; everything else they just put out obligatory products not innovative ones. I would take the NX100 over the NEX5 any day.
As far as comparing it to the NEX 7, that it silly too. Neither the NX200 or the NEX 7 release dates are even announced.
It is an inexpensive mirrorless camera for consumers who want interchangeable lenses without the bulk. To dismiss it for being exactly what it is supposed to be is silly.

11 months ago |I’m totally in for one once the used prices drop (you can get a new kit for $370 anyway). Sure it’s not pretty, but it’s better looking than the NEX, and it’s got two adjustment wheels, which is fantastic. Couple that with i-Function and a decent, low-profile EVF and it’s a great deal. However the real kicker is the lens lineup…fantastic (better than the Panny 20mm, if sadly a bit slower aperture-wise) 30mm pancake, very good 20mm pancake, a full-size (i.e. NEX-sized) 18-55 zoom, a compact 20-50 zoom, a 50-200 (or is it 55?), a 16mm pancake, an 85 1.4… awesome.

10 months ago |It’s a bit presumptous to assume that the NX100 is discontinued from the NX100+20-50mm kit being discontinued.
The kit with flash is not discontinued. Perhaps the NX100+20-50mm+flash kit is replacing the original NX100 kit and that’s all the news there is.

10 months ago |The Samsung NX100 is a great camera. It feels very sturdy and looks like a nice melange of modern and retro design. All the settings can be accessed immediately with buttons or the dial. It allows for very professional camera work. I like it a lot.
The video performance and settings leave a lot of room for emprovement, though.
