Pentax NC mirrorless system to be announced tomorrow. And one more “K-mirrorless” system coming in autumn!

April Fool’s joke idea 2003: a small digital Pentax system camera (Soruce: Reality Scanner on Flickr).
It’s not a secret anymore that tomorrow Pentax will announce the new NC mirrorless system. Amateur Photographer reports that “‘The new mid-range mirrorless camera, under the Pentax brand, is expected to sell for about 70,000 to 80,000 yen ($864 to 988), including a lens.”. Honestly, I wouldn’t call a mirrorless system with 1/2.33 inch sensor a “midrange system”! Anyway, those of you looking for a more professional Pentax mirrorless system will be happy to know that Pentax will announce a new “K-mirrorless” system in autumn. That new system will use the Sony APS-C sensor.
You can follow tomorrow’s Pentax announcement on MirrorlessRumors! I will continually update you with all news, reviews and image samples!

11 months ago |I was really looking forward for such a camera 15 years ago, when I started digital photography and DSLR were too expensive for my pockets. At that time (or even in 2003) a Pentax NC system, at about $1000 would have sold very well.
Right now, it’s too late, too little, too expensive.
- DSLR are super cheap and much better in all regards (besides size).
- Mirrorless offer (kind of) the same DSLR image quality in a smaller package (don’t know exact sizes, but I expect GF3 being about the same size of these pentax)
- If size is really the primary concern, and IQ is really secondary, there are tons of compact cameras with decent or even excellent optics. Sure, the optic is not interchangeable, but who care? They are much cheaper, and much smaller.
None of these were true last century (or even in 2003), when I was dreaming this system. Right now, it might be a niche product, but more likely it will be a failure.

An aps-c system with Sony sensor technology + Pentax expertise in Pancake lenses = best recipe i’ve heard in the recent months!

11 months ago |It sounds as though the AP piece is referring to the APS-C based camera system, not the 1/2.33-inch one.
Both the “mid-range” label and the price are consistent with APS-C.
The only confusing factor is that is expected to be their second mirrorless system camera, not their first.

11 months ago |There are ways they could deserve that price with a quality 1/2.3″ sensor … a combination of fast high quality lenses, operational speed, build quality, quiet or silent shutter, and being small.

even if they put out f0.95 glass, still..the sensor is smaller then the xz1
