Mayflower: “Camera market collapse hasn’t reach it’s bottom yet”

Chart_Camera_Production_Rolling_Year

Latest CIPA data show that the 3 year long camera market collapsing may have reached the bottom of the bottle. So is there now some hope to see some growth again? The Mayflower agency analyzed the data and writes:

Using so-called 12 month rolling data* there seems to be at first sight a reassurance of the market. However, unfortunately, this is a misleading interpretation of reality. After transferring the CIPA data into local currencies using historical exchange rates , it becomes clear that the camera makers at best achieve stable average prices .

Damn, doesnt sound good if true!

Rumors tidbits: New Sony FE lenses, Fuji X-E2 firmware, new GM7, new PEN.

Let’s make a short recap of the most recent mirrorless rumors:

Sony:
In November Sony could announce the new update FE lens roadamp. Til Spring 2016 Sony will release eight new lenses. There could be a new 24-70mm GM FE lens, new 85mm f/1.4 G FE lens, a telephoto lens and faster FE f/2.8 zooms (Source: SonyAlpharumors).

Fuji:
The X-E2 is rumored to get a massive overhaul of the AF system (Source: Fujirumors).

Panasonic:
The next new MFT camera from Panasonic will be the GM7. To be announced in Spring (Source: 43rumors).

Olympus:
The 300mm F/4.0 IS PRO Zuiko lens will be released within the next 2-3 months. And the next new MFT camera will be a completely overhauled new PEN.

Samsung:
Samsung didn’t react to the latest news saying they will drop out of the camera business. That’s worrying.

Nikon:
No news or rumors about upcoming Nikon 1 plans

Canon:
FF mirrorless coming in 12-18 months.

Canon 120MP sensor uses a sort of “foveon alike” tech. And Full frame Mirrorless are coming in 12 months.

An imaginary (and rather cool!) Full Frame Canon mirrorless.

Something is moving at Canon! It really looks like Canon is finally going to launch their first Full Frame Mirrorless system camera within the next 12 months. A prototype or almost final version could be announced at Photokina in September at earliest. I am wondering if the FF camera will use the current EOS-M mount or a completely newly designed mount.

There is also a second highly interesting news. The newly developed 120 Megapixel Full Frame sensor is not a RGB Bayer sensor! it uses a sort of Foveon alike tech. Sounds intriguing!

Fuji news: New firmware update on all cameras. Financial reports discloses strong X-T10 sales!

Fuji X camera owners got a new update today: fujifilm.com/support/digital_cameras/software/fw_table.html

And unlike Canon (-21% profit reported yesterday) Fuji is doing very fine! Theya re selling tons of Instax cameras:

““the targeted sales volume of instax for this FY has been raised from 4.6 million units to 5.0 million units.”

and the new X-T10 is also selling fine:

The sales of premium digital cameras X-Series centering on the interchangeable lens camera,  FUJIFILM X-T10, launched in June 2015, were strong. FUJIFILM X-T10 can realize outstanding image quality and comfortable operability with a compact and  lightweight body.”

Fuji is the sole leader of the instant cameras world. Maybe other companies should join that market too?
