Nikon financial report: In 2015 Nikon sold less cameras and less lenses.

NIkonreport

Nikon publsihed their latest financial report and there are only bad news for the Imaging Business (video business + digital camera business):

  • The whole company sales and operating income reduced 4% and 16%, respectively, from the year earlier. Against the previous forecasts, sales posted a slight decrease while operating income was 8% higher.
  • Nikon sold less cameras and less lenses.
  • The sales volume of digital SLR cameras decreased, resulting in 11% sales reduction and 19% operating income reduction from the previous year. Partly because of the negative exchange rate impact, both sales and operating income did not reach the forecasts.
  • Yet, the forecast (for the Imaging Business) shows the sales reduction of 15% and operating income reduction of 23%.

So far only Sony has shown a positive result in the Imaging Business. So Nikon isn’t the only company having troubles in the Imaging Business.

Meyer Optik will launch a third lens in 2017. With native mounts for all mirrorless systems.

meyer

The German company meyer Gorlitz announced the launch of a third lens for 2017. The hint comes via their current Kickstarter campagn for the 50mm Trioplan lens:

Restoring the Trioplan lens line means that all good things come in threes. Our major 2017 lens announcement will be the third and final Trioplan in our line-up.

The lens will be available in different mounts including Sony E, MFT, Fuji X and Canon EOS-M.

The bad news collection: Fuji X-T2, Olympus E-PL8 and Sony A5300 shipment will be delayed!

Quick bad news: The Komamoto Sony sensor production facility got damaged during the earthquake. And this will definitely have a huge impact on camera shipments. This is the latest info I got:

  1. Olympus will delay the new E-PL8 launch
  2. Sony will delay the A5300 launch. Not sure Sony will announce anything at all this June.
  3. The Fuji X-T2 will also ship later than expected

How long those camera shipments will be delayed has to be seen. The Sony sensor factory is planed to restart by end of May. Let’s hope there is no unexpected reason for an ulterior delay!
