Dpreview just told us that Nikon killed the “Nikon 1” system!

Nikon1

Dpreview just published the full EOS-M 3 review. And there is a very unusual “rumor” they unveiled during the camera comparison section:

Trying to figure out where the EOS M3 fits into the mirrorless landscape is tough. Its closest peers, based on price and features, are the Fujifilm X-A2, Olympus E-M10 II and Sony a6000 (we’re leaving Nikon 1 cameras out of the list, as we believe the series is no longer being developed.)

Now this isn’t going to make the Nikon 1 owners happy. I am wondering if Nikon is preparing a new FF mirrorless system or more likely if they will stick to their current DSLR line development only.

Thanks Jockum!

Now we know it: No new Canon EOS-M camera or lens at Photokina :(

canon-ae-d-1024x576

There is a big letdown news for those who expected to get some advanced new Canon EOS-M or maybe even a FF mirrorless system camera. Digicameinfo got their hands on the list of products that will be announced at the Photokina. And nope, there is no new mirrorless camera nor a lens for the EOS-M system.

To keep dreams alive I will repost that rendering image of a Canon FF mirrorless camera from David Riesenberg. You know just to keep alive our hopes…

What new cameras to expect from Sony, Canon, Nikon, Fuji, Olympus and Panasonic at Photokina!

Time to make a roundup of the rumors spreading on the web. What can we expect to be announced at Photokina by the big companies?

Canon:
Earlier this year Canon promised to launch a more “advanced” mirrorless camera. But I think this will be an APS-C camera and not a new Full Frame system.

Nikon:
Since over a year now Nikon sites do “rumor” about new large sensor mirrorless cameras. So far none of those rumors became true. Maybe the stagnating mirrorless market sales made them change their mind about the need to launch a FF compact system camera?

Sony:
Well, first a hint. I expect Sony to “skip” the Photokina event. Their new Sony A9 is more likely to be introduced in the October-November timeframe in order to get the full spotlight and no distractions from other Photokina news. High megapixel count (close to 100MP) is one of the things we expect to see on that camera.

Olympus:
Two things are sure in our life: Death the and the new E-M1II :) That camera will be surely announced at Photokina :)

Panasonic:
There will be a new entry level MFT camera in late August. But the big questions is: Will they also announce the GH5 at Photokina? There were some rumors about delays caused by the Kumamoto earthquake…

Fuji:
The X-A3 is coming and nobody really cares about it :)
The major news may be the medium format system camera that Fuji could display as a prototype….
