New firmware for the Sony NEX-3/5
The new Sony NEX-3/4 firmware version 4 is now available for download at Sony Japan (Click here). It’s a multi-language version!
The new firmware adds the peaking mode (see video on top) and the picture effects (the equivalent of the art filters form Olympus).

I must be very spoiled: I thought that was already a standard feature of all CDAF cameras.

11 months ago |Why ignorant? CDAF operates on contrast and it is obvious that for a CDAF to be able to assist in manual focus you would need something like this. This is precisely how I expected MF assist to work. Or other way around: there is no other way for CDAF to assist in MF mode.

CDAF has little to do with this- CDAF is auto focus. This is edge detection. CDAF may utilize a similar algorithm, but it’s incorrect to state that contrast detect auto focus can assist in manual focus.

. It would also greatly increase the sales ( and usability ) of MF lenses.
