New Canon EOS-M with integrated viewfinder and 24 MP?

The first rumor of the new week is about Canon. Those may be the specs of an upcoming new EOS-M model:
- 24mp APS-C Sensor
- New generation AF system
- DIGIC V
- Removable Electronic Viewfinder (Very high resolution)
- Optional grip attachment
- 5fps
- Slightly larger than the current EOS M
- Introduced with 3 more lenses
- $999 USD
I think it’s more a wishlist than a real camera
But if true than Canon really aims to play in the same league of the Sony NEX-6 and NEX-7 and the Fuji X-E1.

3 months ago |You’re reporting a rumor rated CR1 on Canon Rumrors…Come on, even the high rated rumors on that site are usually wrong.

Ridiculous camera, ridiculous pricing and possibly a, very apt, ridiculous rumor.

3 months ago |oh god why Canon is so SLOW to enter the MFT market and put such an average product on sale that is already dead…If they want to protect their dslr market share, they should’nt make this marketing mistake and keep to the dslr market !!

3 months ago |If it is the old Digic V, it cannot be “New generation AF system”.

3 months ago |The EOS M isnt selling in the UK, it’s a half hearted attempt at entering this market, which should have been left alone until something decent and complete was ready, this fell short. They shouldn’t bother trying to upgrade now, as it really emphasises just how poor the base model was on release. They have played right into the hands of Fuji and Sony with this camera, and let themselves down. They should bin it and wait until something worth putting L lenses on is completely ready.

3 months ago |Personally I’m amazed that anyone would want to put a big fat L lens on a CSC body.
Lee Martin
3 months ago |It might not be the ideal solution, but if you’ve got some, and want a smaller body to use to make t simpler to carry around, then it should be compatible. I wouldn’t be buying another series of lenses. The fact that the purpose built ones are considered “sluggish” is poor to say the least, and the lens apertures are slow also. They should have learnt from the Fuji X Pro 1 and X100 to see what can be done, rather than think they are making progress and coming along with an “upgrade” that would appear to be either an add on viewfinder , or possibly built in. Yawn yawn, these will be heavily discounted very soon, I hope they wait until the replacement is actually worth while and thoroughly ready, before releasing it.

3 months ago |This is the camera they should have opened with, but they were so consumed with protecting their DSLR business.
A 24MP sensor, plus a high degree modularity would make the price-point more palatable.
And if Canon would bring out a home-grown version of Speedbooster that provides full-frame emulation, I would buy into such a system.

3 months ago |Exactly, they entered half-hearted because they wanted to protect their DSLR market and also, they didn’t improve the video in their DSLR because they wanted to protect their new EOS-C line up. This is just too ridiculous, first of all, they are all different markets, the target, the use, the priorities of the users, the price, it’s all different! Afraid of cannibalizing themselves by holding back any innovation? Wouldn’t it better to cannibalize themselves and narrowing their line up rather them giving the others the chance to do it for them? Well, I hope that those really pushing innovation get the best of this Canon’s lack of effort.

3 months ago |In addition to the weaknesses of EOS-M already mentioned, there is something else that baffles me:
Why hasn’t Canon published an official EOS-M lens roadmap ?
Without knowing which lenses are coming, why would any serious photographer buy into this system.
Surely, Canon must be hard working on new lenses, so why not just tell the world about it.
Vivek
3 months ago |My point is that the EOS-M system is just as much valuable the rumor is.
Renato S.
3 months ago |Yeah, but the point is, do they want?
Canon has been playing with themselves for a while now. Because of the EOS-C, they haven’t done any significant improvement in video for their DSLR, despite the fact that they are not direct competitors. Canon was questioning why the EOS-M didn’t sell as well as they thought, when didn’t bring anything new to the table, besides the lack of lenses, controls, slow-AF, etc. And so on and so on. It seems like they are doing their stuff and not really caring about what consumers may want or not, which I find a disrespectful, even more when amateur videographers being the ones that helped them get such popularity in video.
