3 months ago |I actually downloaded many many Leica M samples from Leica site , the lenses are great , no doubt about it.
but the sensor does not look as good as the D600 sensor or the 5D3 sensor at ISO1600 and onwards.
Plus , it seems to have some kind of low ISO banding issue(terrible horizontal banding revealed as I lifted the shadow of a photo of some bread and wine glass a bit).
I hope they are all just adobe issue than Leica’s own and FW update will fix it soon.

3 months ago |I used a Lecia M 6 months ago at the PhotoPlus Expo in NYC around 5 months ago and I have to say its pretty awesome. Ill never be able to afford one, so getting to play with it at the show was a pretty special experience.

So don’t dismiss Leica to early: they are doing their homework too. Probably they begin to see that cheaper bodies might sell more of their expensive lenses.

3 months ago |A new Leica X and Leica X-E.
X-E will be similar to the X2 with some upgrades ($1500) but the interesting one will be the new X. The best part will be a true manual focus fixed 35mm equivalent summicron. It will have an optical viewfinder with digital focus peaking. In order to keep the size down to what an X should be, the viewfinder will be where the flash is currently housed on the X1/X2. So no flash on the new X. $2500.
The next M will be designed to be able to upgrade/swap its processor and electronics. Think of it like changing film. The body will be all mechanical engineering and meant to last for generations.

3 months ago |Leica needs to be very careful not to cannibalize sales of the new M with too many intermediate product ranges. As it stands, they should be very careful in introducing another full frame sensor or interchangeable systems as that could lead to smaller market for the M and the associate M lenses.
Best way to move forward is with a new X. Another crop sensor with built-in EVF and a faster lens would extend the life of the X for another life-cycle. And this product should emphasize the AF functionality rather than a MF oriented camera.
Ultimately it should be a product that existing M users would purchase in conjunction with their existing set up.

I am so glad that CaNikon are way ahead of Leica, with their wonderful mirrorless cropsters. lol
