The video on top is a X PRo 1 Focal Plane Shutter Demo.

Fujiguys posted two new video you see here on top and at the bottom of the post. The first video shows the focal plane shutter and the second video the aperture blade. And there is a new set of image samples on Fuji’s website (Click here to see). Meanwhile if you are Japanese you can preorder the camera at Amazon.co.jp (Click here).

Crikey, that’s one big honkin’ camera body! Looks as big as my Epson R-D 1 if not larger! (Although I guess that makes sense as they are both APS-C size.)

And it’s weird that it needs an auto-stop-down aperture mechanism, just like a DSLR. That’s bound to increase “shutter lag,” as the camera will need to wait for the blades to reach the set aperture before triggering. Probably adds a bit to the level of operating noise as well. I guess these are part of the price you pay for emulating traditional all-mechanical cameras.

Question I’m still waiting to see answered: How useful, really, is that teensy 0.37x optical viewfinder?

Pretty quiet shutter for a focal

    Not that big.

Nice find, and thanks for posting! Camera is still out of my price range, but it’s very interesting camera to follow.

Is it just me? It seems that the fuji suffers some big time shutter lag.

No, there is lag. But what Puzzles me is the fact that the first press is often fast but the second and third has a hefty delay. This camera looks to good to be true, it must have some flaws, I guess ;)

No, it lags like a point’n shoot. :’(

Interesting camera to follow, but are those videos boring or what? I mean wow look at how the aperture works and is round on our 1700€ body! lol
Well, brother for 1700 its not round enough…

  • Avatar Image anonymous said 3 months, 3 weeks ago:

surely you meant to say lens ;)

I had not seem the videos yet and yes, it looks like he has time to take his fingers off the shutter button before it takes the picture, look at it.

If that’s the case, then the Sony NEX-7 just got a bonus point. I have never used the X-100 but heard enough people complaining about its general slow operation.

I hope we are wrong with the X Pro 1.

  • Avatar Image anonymous said 3 months, 3 weeks ago:

If you lock focus first with the X100 the shutter fires instantaneously. It’s really not a big deal in practice IMO.

I’m not really impressed by the amount of noise on the sample photos.
