Thom Hogans guess about the new Fuji sensor (+ X100 in Stock).

First the good news for our US readers. After a long time the Fuji X100 is now in Stock at Amazon (Click here).
As you know yesterday Fuji announced the launch of a new mirrorless and interchangeable lens system for Spring 2012. I read Asian, European and American press releases and nowhere you can find any info about the sensor size. One of my Asian sources told me the sensor is definitely bigger than APS-C but he couldn’t unveil me the exact sensor size. Now let’s hope we can find some more info as soon as possible. I am really intrigued about that new Fuji system!
Meanwhile Thom Hogan wrote: “I’m still trying to fully decipher the materials from the Japanese press conference where Fujifilm made the announcement, but these things seem vaguely clear: (1) a new lens mount (i.e. not m4/3); (2) a larger than APS/DX sensor, but not as big as full frame/FX; (3) higher resolution and better noise handling than any existing FX sensor (which means more than 24mp and better than D3s); and (4) non-Bayer in nature.“

There is a need for a 2,000 dollar mirrorless camera that’s excellent. There is no more need for a 6,000 dollar mirrorless camera, because they already exist and have little red dots on them.

8 months ago |Fuji is capable of making excellent lenses so that is nothing to worry about.
Regardless of what sensor they use, it will be an expensive camera. The larger the sensor is, the more expensive it will be. If APS-C expect a price north of 2.5k (body only), and if larger than APS-C it will be closer to or higher than 4k.

8 months ago |Just give us a X100 type body, really well made with a 1.3 crop sensor. Give it a mount that can allow a high range of legacy lenses.
Give us plenty of controls and features for manual focusing. Keep this brilliant OVF/EVF and make it ajustable at some different focal lengh if you find a way :p
Am I asking to much? Ok I go back to my dreams.

Fants
8 months ago |Of course it’s silly, but that would actually be pretty cool in a way. Especially if it produced significantly better B&W images than an equivalent camera’s converted from color.

8 months ago |What about hybrid AF? Fuji has it for the compacts, and I don’t see why it can’t be done for this mirrorless model.
If not, please give it a M mount, slap on a real rangefinder, and make M mount Fujinons for it.

M mount with autofocus confirmation LED, please. Then I could use superb Leica M lenses, and have a little easier time with manual focus.
Frankly, I can’t believe that the M9 doesn’t have autofocus confirmation – it ain’t that difficult to implement.

Interestingly, Canon is rumored to be moving from the APS-H size sensor to an FX sensor in their flagship bodies. It makes one wonder if they have upgraded their manufacturing equipment.
An APS-H sensor would be quite interesting and, if there has been no change in manufacturing equipment, should cost a fair amount less than an FX sensor.
It does sound like Fuji is trying to “freeze” purchases of presently available equipment of their competitors with these announcements.

8 months ago |I also think it could be the “son of XPan” sort of design, but the original Xpan lenses would probably not work too well directly since they were made for 2xFX format. I can see a camera with 2 lens “system”, a wide and an normal
