First real Fuji X PRO 1 ISO test and comparison with Nikon D700.
Finally you can see a first ISO and sharpness test at vladdodan.ro (Click here / via Fujirumors). The image-crop you see on top (Click on it to enlarge) compares the Fuji X PRO 1 (35mm @ f/1.4) sharpness with the Nikon D700 (AF-S @ f/1.4) sharpness. At a first glance the Fuji looks a tack sharper. But please keep in mind that we need more tests to be sure of that. The sharpness also depends from other factors like lens and image processor. But it’s so great to see an APS-C sensor beat the quality of a Full Frame sensor! Really makes me wonder what a Full Frame Fuji could do!
Here are the direct links to the images:
X PRO 1 versus D700 (Nikon on the right)
X PRO 1 ISO table (ISO 100 up to 25.800)
35mm lens center sharpness (at different apertures)
35mm lens corner sharpness (at different apertures)
I want to thank Vlad for the great test! He did what big websites didn’t do! Will bookmark your website now
P.S.: You can preordet the Fuji X PRO 1 at Expansys USA (Click here), Expansys Canada (Click here) and Expansys UK (Click here). You can get notification at Amazon US (Click here) and BHphoto (Click here).

2 months ago |As for the detail/sharpnes, D700 isn’t really that great, E-5 with SHG glass beats it easily…

2 months ago |Uh… out resolving a legacy full frame isn’t anything new. The NEX-7 has more resolving power than the d700, d3x, and 5d mark ii.

2 months ago |Unfortunately those ISO tests are all with noise reduction on, that makes them pretty much useless except if you plan on shooting that camera in JPEG mode with in-camera noise-reduction turned on (which I can’t imagine anybody would want to do), and it also makes it impossible to judge the quality/look of the noise produced by the X-Trans sensor. Too bad…

2 months ago |Wow…so…ALL OF THESE NEWS ETC…for…THAT? :/
This is it? Is this the REVOLUTION that was announced?
What I saw from these pictures are just normal pictures, nothing special.
The comparison with the D700 is ridiculous and prove one thing: The Fuji’s lens is sharper wide open in the edge…comparing to a 2008 FF sensor with a FF lens on it! WHAT A NEWS!!! lol…
But after you look at DOF…it tells an other story!

2 months ago |another pathetic test, it’s always the same game before cameras get announced, they get compared with the D700 (or mkII 5D) (benchmarks for the last 3 years and still rocking), test are applied to make the latest and greatest camera look close or similar to D700 performance….
….then the new camera suddenly hits the market, doesn’t even scratch the surface of a D700 or mkII, and goes hits the floor shelves with a 50% pricedrop withing the first year. early adopters try to get rid of their latest and greatest, and switch to FF land to find peace of mind
test ist flawed, dof is not taken into account, compare aps and ff = apples and oranges, compare 43 to ff = peanuts and oranges, also they run a poor lens on the nikon.
it happened with the K5 it happened witht the E5 it happened with the 7D, A77 alpha, all those aps-c and smaller sensor things are nice for premium price hobbyists, nothing more. a pro doesn’t even want them for free.
i remember some preview tests where the E-5 beat the D700 in ideal light conditions at base iso (and there was a big blah about AA filters and such) (comparing SHG glass to mediocre nikon zooms) even with the (known) AA filter which pros need (weddings, grooms dresses, fabrics etc) the D700 still beats any AA filtered, or non filtered whatsoever camera in crop and aps c, nobody tested the higher isos, i had to buy the E-5 to see that it’s a slight tweak from the E-3 only and sold it withing 1 month.
fuji seems to have found a very good mix with a performant sensor in aps-c, respect, but to comparing it with fullframe is pointless, unfortunately fuji didn’t want to bother leica with their bestselling M9, so leica keeps milking the rich and famous. i’d buy that fuji in a heartbeat if it were fullframe, aps-c not interested.

2 months ago |@The 2 trolls: The comparison with the D700 was for DOF (bokeh) only. Many customers don`t know the difference! If the camera makers would sell only to professionals, they would go bankrupt in less than 1 year.
The people that keep talking about “apples and oranges” didn`t bother reading the whole original article.
)
@Peter: High ISO Noise Reduction was set to 0. (unless the firmware acted on it`s own)

So? Never bothered Rolls Royce, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Bentley et al. 1% of the world equals a lot of people!

3 weeks ago |Even on a production model of the Fuji X-Pro1 the autofocus will not be impressive. Whoever thinks that this problem is going to be fixed with some magic software update is wrong. It’s a hardware thing. So, although the test images look good, I don’t see any great improvement when I compare it to the now ancient D700. Really, there’s nothing in it. I guess it will take a few more years before the new super high res. OLED viewfinder, quick and accurate autofocus and a very good full frame sensor are combined in a small camera body.
