(UPDATED) HOT!!! First full size image of the Fuji X PRO 1 !!!

One word….WOW!
I got this images and specs from the latest February issue of the french Responsesphoto magazine (Click here to see the article). The screenshot you see here on top is actually the very first image of the full and final Fuji X PRO 1 mirrorless and interchangeable lens camera. It really looks like the digital version of the amazing designed Contax G2 (Click here to see those cameras on eBay). Responsephoto camera specs:
- Three new lenses: 18mm (27mm equivalent) f/2.0, 35mm (53mm equivalent) f/1.4 and 60mm (90mm equivalent) f/2.4
- Responsephoto says the Camera+35mm lens kit will cost 1.300 Euro. That’s actually just a bit higher than the Fuji X100 price. The other two lenses will cost 600 Euro each.
- Responsephoto says the sensors name is X-Trans! R. writes that Fuji took some ideas from the classica film technology to create the new sensor which will beat the image quality of all current fulflrame sensors! The photosites will be of 6 different colors and disposed randomly, therefore moire will be avoided.
- There is no Anti Aliasing filter on the sensor.
- The lenses are made of metal.
- The camera has the new X-mount. The flange distance will be of 17.7 mm.
- The viewfinder is hybrid (optical and electronic). The optical viewfinder changes the view depending on the kind of prime lens you sue. This again is an idea coming from the Contax G2!
- The autofocus sensor is…external! There is a special AF sensor on the camera body!
UPDATE: Here is the pic of the new lenses

The camera is going to be announced next Tuesday! It’s time for you to join the Mirrorlessrumors comunity by following our RSS feed (Click here), join us on Facebook (Click here) and follow our Tweets (Click here). You really don’t want to miss any Fuji news

5 months ago |Does the X-Pro ! use a focal plane shutter, or does it have a leaf shutter in the lens (like a X100)? A leaf shutter has a higher flash sync speed.
dandelion
5 months ago |I highly doubt that… since the lenses are interchangeable, each lens would have to had a shutter inside, which would make them larger and more expensive.
There is no way the to use f1.4 lens with leaf shutter and 1/4000s or similar.
Also, there would be no possibility to use legacy lenses (maybe with electronic shutter?).
c.d.embrey
5 months ago |Many cameras have used interchangeable lenses with leaf shutters and the Fuji X100 uses a small simple leaf shutter that shoots at 1/4000. The next best is the Schneider at 1/1600. Fuji has the technology to do it, but will they?
There is small and very vocal minority who use Legacy Lenses! But I doubt many people do. BTW Nikon AI-s are the only legacy lenses I use.

Gunnar
5 months ago |well, with that chunky body i would be very disappointed if there is no sensor shift stabilizer inside.. why else could it be so fat?

5 months ago |What other Fuji bodies use IBIS? I’m not a fuji user, so I have limited experience with them, but I thought most of their IS “solution” was algorithms to raise the shutter speed and ISO as needed, but I could be wrong.
What other Fuji cams have IBIS?

it will be my new Fuji after so many years using MPF105

Also means this shot:

5 months ago |160 comments: It’s definitely a hype camera.
It looks to be designed to be the “poor” man Leica (1300 USD for a camera is not cheap).
It seems to be a nice spec’ed camera but there are some (important) details that I’m curious about:
* is Fuji planning a zoom? all advocate primes but a fast zoom make it a walk around camera and attract more customers
* can the external AF sensor select an area of image to focus or is allways focus and compose?
* is contrast detect AF still available, i.e. is focus accurate? I have my doubts that an external AF sensor _and_ lens make tolerance deliver accurate focus; if it misses too much focus…
* how camera will prevent dust magnetism? if they deliver only primes users will change lenses more often
* at 17,7mm flange distance it is short; this was the cause of “bad” sony nex lenses due to to steep angles; we know sensor may not have microlenses (good) but it is enough?
* this is like a range finder camera but how many will be pleased with its use? We all know that Leica and X100 have their fans but a system camera to gain momentum should not be a niche only camera (Leica is the very high end many/some bought M9 to say loud that they have it and not to take pictures with it)
The flange distance will also prevent that these lenses can be mounted in other cameras (less than M43 and really close to nex (0.7mm gap)
My personal selfish opinion (applicable only to me):
To me it is a range finder camera, never used one don’t know if I would like to use it.
My “viewfinder eye” is my left eye, I’ll have to test it: all RF are designed to be used with right eye on viewfinder, i.e. not for me.
But I like that we have options and options we fast glass. This put pressure on competition. I’m a customer therefore I like competition.

5 months ago |The X100 didn’t actually ship for several months after it was announced – and then it was in very short supply for months after that. If the same thing happens again it might take until next autumn or Christmas to actually get one of these cameras.

5 months ago |You also have to remember the circumstances that came around about the same time that the X100 was launched. There was the earthquake & tsunami as well as the nuclear power plant that threatened to have huge environmental implications on Japan. These issues closed down factories and forced production times to slow.
I expect that today those problems will be a non-factor. Moreover, the x100 was the test dummy (so to speak). Fuji wasn’t fully aware that it would be such a hit so they may not have put out as many units as a precautionary measure. Of course i cant be sure about all of this, but my thought is that this new camera will be easier to get a hold of. But of course with all of the hype I could be wrong.
MJr
5 months ago |The X100 was testing the waters for Fuji. Now that they know what they’re dealing with they were able to afford/risk the R&D on this genius machine and probably make an accurate guess of how many people are gonna wonna buy it, plus probably get them ready for shipping within a reasonable time!

5 months ago |What a strange, yet exciting little camera! I think Fuji is doing everything right at this point, they’re capturing a niche of the market that none of the other camera makers are hitting at this price level.

5 months ago |Amazing how Fuji just goy it “right”. a Pro compact camera with classic interface and 3 bright primes.
MJr
5 months ago |Amazing how people had just forgotten how photography works. Aperture, Shutter, and ISO value, that’s all it is folks! FINALLY, Fuji manages to respect these basics by not covering them up with so called ‘features’. Instead improve upon that what really matters, with more than up-to-date technology. Man that Hybrid VF is really something, it combines all that we have learned in modern times back to the true core of photography. Having the electronic overlay in the OVF brings to light endless possibilities where analog cameras used to hit a wall. Framelines for every focal-length, close-up correction, electronic level, exposure info and all other information (or as little as) you want. While being able to view outside the framelines as well to better anticipate your composition and timing. Not to mention the bright primes and unobtrusiveness of a system like this compared to slr, while maintaining the image quality of large professional equipment. As with everything tho, each system has its own use. But this, this is something that was gone for many many years, but now its back. (don’t get the wrong idea tho, i’m in my twenties, so it aint nostalgia.

is enlarged so lens takes filter 52mm
(filter size as in the X-P1 article in french mag )
X-P1 approx
130mm long
74mm high.
Compared to Olympus E-P1
X-P1 is
10mm longer
4mm higher.
MJr
5 months ago |What’s all this questioning of size ? It’s simply the X100 with a bigger lens on it, isn’t it obvious ? The E-P1 is about the size of the X100 in length and width, but without the height of the viewfinder. This 50/1.4 should be about as big as the E-P1 kit zoom.

5 months ago |For MrJ: not to contradict you, but photography is about shutter speed, lens opening, ISO AND focussing. And one of the unrisolved questions of the new camera is how the focussing system can meet the needs of a f/1.4 lens. I have no preconcepts: I hope it works, but that’s something we will know only when the real thing will be around.

5 months ago |Waw…
I went “back” from digital photography to analog photography some time ago… But this is a very nice piece of equipment, that looks even better in handling than the sony nex : there’s an apertue ring on the lens, sweet and handy, a dedicated speed button. Hope there’s alos a direct ISO button and i’m sold, and don’t need anything else to control.
By the way, for a wider angle you can adpat every Voigltlander WA lens, even if they’re quite slow (12f5.6, 15 f5.6, 21 f.45, 25 f4)they’re cheap. A 60mm is a very wise move for an aps sensor (just like samsung who’s planning to make a 55 mm) but unfortuantely it’s a tad slow. I can live with it.
A hybrid viewfinder. I never tried but looks very nice. I just hope there are some focusing assistance when the evf is on (like peaking or whatever) and that focus is mechanical instead of wired but I doubt of it.
So this is a camera that could bring me back into digital world for color photography and/or travelling (B&W is so easy and funny to process and enlarge at home that I’ll never stop it I think).
MJr
5 months ago |‘even’ better ? That’s a good one

5 months ago |Well, nex7 with the three dials seems quite ok : one for shutter speed, one for aperture and one for ISO. But I prefer aperture on a ring on the lens.
MJr
5 months ago |Yea that’s true, for it’s ‘type’ it is quite alright. But imo it is a completely different cookie. It does not go above the 7, it takes a different road altogether. It’s nice useful dials built upon useless modern shit, versus useful dials from scratch PLUS modern shit where it matters. IMO

5 months ago |This looks amazing. It’s the poor man’s M9 with autofocus.
I’ll be getting one for travel photography for sure. No need to haul around bulky DSLRs anymore. You could mount basically any manual lens as well.
Woo hoo!

5 months ago |“the new sensor which will beat the image quality of all current fullframe sensors!”
So are you saying this camera has a fullframe sensor? Or is it APSC, or is it m4/3? Your article does not say.
lorenzino
5 months ago |Sensor is APSC. Fuji claims it will beat the IQ of current FF sensors, which is to be seen. But format is APSC
Bernie Ess
5 months ago |“Fuji claims it will beat the IQ of current FF sensors, which is to be seen”
No, actually they did not say anything like “current” or “all” FF sensors. They said to the french “réponses photo” magazine, that in terms of resolution it would be equal or even better than sensors” in 24x36mm.”
Just that.
This is of course very vague, could mean the 6MP sensor of the COntax N1 digital (10 years ago), or the D3, or d700, or even the D4.
16MP without a AA filter, and without a vibrating mirror might eventually resove a bit better than a 16MP DSLR with AA filter, with very good lenses probably closer to 20MP. 20 is virtually the same as the 5dII or 1ds III, and this is enough for most I guess.
At least for me, but I am much more curious about the colour rendering, DR and the general “look” of the images. Fuji says the modified CFA should mimic the look of film better.
This would be a great thing.

5 months ago |If it’s anything like the 15MP SD-1, then yeah, I’d peg the “equivalent” resolution at around 20MP. Hopefully the lower pixel density will allow for good high ISO performance as well. If it can combine the pixel-level detail of the SD-1 with the high ISO performance of the X100, it’ll be far and away the best APS-C sensor on the market.
Will
5 months ago |Ah. So it is just promotional hype.
Sahaja
5 months ago |“will beat the IQ of FF sensors” probably means “it will beat the IQ of _some_ FF sensors”
And in what way? – DR, noise, high iso, colour fidelity, resolution, …?
Forget about what Fuji marketing says to a magazine reporter – let’s wait till we can see some real pictures and judge for ourselves.
Jorge
5 months ago |It’s difficult to judge from the picture, but considering it’s an APS-C, it looks too big. And I don’t find it as good looking as the X100. Sure it will be a great camera and it is great that there are alternatives in the market (especially quality ones that offer innovative design), but at that price (you have also to consider the 600 Euro extra lenses, otherwise stick to the X100), size, and no zoom lenses, I bet it will become just a fine niche product.
Danonino
5 months ago |Oh god please, let the AF speed be at least on par with Nikon V1 and Olympus E-p3. Then its a no brainer for me. This is it, what I have been waiting for.. OMG OMG OMG OH MY GOOOOD ! ! ! Cant believe it.. I really cant believe it..
Dave Lively
5 months ago |I wonder if the external autofocus sensor is active.
If it was like an IR laser rangefinder with a diffuser to spread the narrow beam out the camera could focus in complete darkness. It could also be very quick. It would not be as precise as CDAF and getting the camera to focus on the desired subject would be hard to control but that is true of any external autofocus sensor.
