The new Canon Full Frame mirrorless is coming in 2018 and seems to have a”dedicated” new sensor

Canonrumors reports that the new Full Frame mirrorless that could be launched by end 2018 might have a newly developed sensor. This sensor is optimized for that specific camera. Canonwatch summed up the rumors we got so far:

  • Dedicated full frame CMOS sensor
  • Different sources and sites were reporting that early prototypes exist, at least to be tested inside Canon’s labs. This intel came in 2016 and early 2017.
  • Canon is possibly working on a full-frame mirrorless camera with EF mount. There have been rumors saying that Canon is delaying this camera because of issues in implementing the EF mount. There is a lot of talk about this. If Canon manages to engineer a full-frame mirrorless camera with EF mount, thus allowing us to use our beloved EF lenses on a smaller and hopefully performing body, it will be a winner. Imagine what you could do with a MILC that goes along with your EF lenses. There is serious a chance we may see this.
  • The latest bit of info I got suggests Canon will announce a full-frame mirrorless camera with a sensor having a resolution of 36-38MP.
  • A possible announcement date is around Photokina 2018, which happens in September.

Elementary, My Dear Watson: Canon will announce a FF mirrorless in 2018

Nobody will be surprised to hear this. Latest rumors from CR confirm that Canon is likely to introduce a new FF mirrorless system camera at the same time (or shortly after) the Nikon FF mirrorless launch in 2018.

While no specs are known yet the camera prototypes are being tested in the field right now. Canon Watch summed up all the rumors on this FF camera:

Nikon already made the official commitment towards developing a “serious” mirrorless system camera. So it makes 100% sense for Canon to make this step too as quick as it gets.
